My fears about Saturday, transfer rumours & Fabianski’s difficult task

The biggest nagging feeling I have in my mind is that of a lanky, dirty, egotistical forward that is playing for the opposition and I do not mean Craig Bellamy. Emmanuel Adebayor returns after his disgusting lash out at Robin Van Persie

Not very much in the way of Arsenal news going on today, well at least not at the time of writing this blog that is, for once up at my normal time. Things keep appearing in front of me when I am ready to settle down and pour my Arsenal filled mind onto paper laptop.

I am feeling a little worried about the game on the weekend. I get flashes of it in my head and my stomach starts to feel somewhat uncomfortable, then I try and push it away to avoid that feeling. Well today I am facing it head on. What is bothering me?

Our recent form of course is a concern. When we collapse like we have done in recent weeks, it worries me. A squad that perhaps isn’t well versed in winning trophies could have the potential to crumble further as the pain of coming away from this season trophyless could be like a stake to the heart. A squad who have invested so much physical and emotional energy into finishing the season on top of the pile may find bouncing back a little difficult this time.

Having said this, hopefully the shameful ending at Wigan may have given the players the kick up the backside that was needed. The personnel will be a little different we hope. Robin Van Persie, Andrey Arshavin and hopefully Alex Song are all first names on the team sheet and hopefully that will be enough to rejuvenate the team as well as give the rest of the players the confidence that the key personal battles can be won.

The other issue I have floating around the few brain cells that I have left is that of Mikel Silvestre being exposed to the likes of Craig Bellamy, Carlos Tevez, Adam Johnson and Emmanuel Adebayor sprinting at him at full pelt on a counter attack. That scares the life out of me. It is all well and good having your two first choice full backs available but not having your two center backs is an issue.

The biggest nagging feeling I have in my mind is that of a lanky, dirty, egotistical forward that is playing for the opposition and I do not mean Craig Bellamy. Emmanuel Adebayor returns after his disgusting lash out at Robin Van Persie early in the season. I just cannot see the man not scoring against us again and that thought just turns my stomach.

I want to see us put in a top performance, dominate them and win the game comfortably whilst cheering as he miscontrols the ball by the corner flag and subsequently giving away a goal kick. I want to see Sol striding past a sliding Adebayor leaving the frustrated front man on his backside on the floor.

With our recent luck I can just see that man scoring the opener and wheeling away, listening to the faint cheers in the away section and that horrible realisation that the most hated man on the pitch has scored against you.. again.

Not really what you want to hear before the game but it is important for my well being that I share this with you as it eats away at me.

Transfer gossip has already moved into second gear and the season hasn’t finished yet, a frightening prospect indeed. The usual suspects via newsnow and regurgitating the fictional stories in the press. so I don’t need to talk about those at this point.

Transfer gossip + writing a daily blog is a very confusing job for me. Readers want to hear about the latest link, mainly to satisfy a little something within themselves, allowing the mind to escape from reality. It is confusing because I feel like I should be writing about ‘Wenger eyeing new Torres’ because it is what people want to hear but I know and hopefully you know that it is likely to be complete and utter bullshit.

We will have plenty of it coming up, especially with Arsene announcing that he will be looking to invest in the squad this summer. That is a green light for hacks to put any footballer in world football together with Arsenal.

Arsene has once again backed goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, and predicts the Polish stopper to prove his worth in future.

Wenger said:

“Lukasz will be one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. I think it would have had long-term consequences for Lukasz if we had gone out against Porto,”

“Mental consequences, because he is a conscientious guy, very intelligent but, as well, sensitive. You can turn sensitivity to an advantage because he can feel and see things that others don’t see but, as well, when you have guilt, it can be a disadvantage confidence-wise. He is a top-class goalkeeper. I repeat that many times and you will see that one day, I am right.”

It is going to take a great deal of mental strength for Lukasz to get over his errors and then turn into a confident keeper. Unfortunately each mistake he makes just sticks on his shoulders and that makes every decision so much more difficult.

I still think the best thing for Fabianski right now is a loan move where he can regain his confidence and wipe the slate clean. He is a very good shot stopper and is also very brave but his decision making has cost him.

Back again tomorrow.
