Three days to go until the big kick off, it has pretty much dawned on me today that we are about to start the new Premier League season, how blinking exciting is that?
There is something about the first game of the season, usually sunshine, new crisp shirts and often new signings taking part with their new teammates.
It is time to wipe away the memories of last season, that is now slotted into the library of history. It is time to wipe the slate clean, give it a polish and start again.
We as fans have a role, our role is to get behind the team and have hope, excitement and passion. That is pretty much our roles from now on. As everyone knows we have players who have divided opinion, some who have not shown consistency and some who haven’t proved good enough at this level but there is no reason for us to slag off our own before the season starts. It doesn’t help the club in anyway possible.
Maybe some of those players you thought not good enough will make the same jump that Mathieu Flamini did in season 2007/08. I guarantee you that a vast majority of those who claim Denilson not to be good enough would have said exactly the same about Flamini before his one great season for us.
I don’t want to talk too much about the Everton game because I will have nothing to preview and I know you do not want to hear me waffle on even more than I already do.
So what is going on today in the world o…. oh yeah *face sinks*
Our injury list could well have increased with news that Johan Djourou has flown back to London due to a possible knee problem he picked up with his country.
At the time of writing this I do not know how serious this reported injury is but you have to be a little concerned that the season hasn’t yet begun and we are already growing a list longer than some have after 15 games. Can I just say that ha ha this is very funny, thank you for the injury joke, it was really good and it got me good and proper. I get it now, it is to make us all think that it is the same crap as the last two seasons but then we pick up no more injuries and then get Rosicky, Nasri and Djourou back when the team is flying.
I like the humour but can it stop now please? Cheers.
Interesting comments made by Alex Hleb, it is nice to hear players being honest enough to admit their mistakes.
“Of course I regret leaving Arsenal, I was playing every week for one of the most exciting sides in Europe, a team which was always in the top-four in the Premier League and were Champions League contenders.
“Also, I was being guided by one of the best coaches in the world in Arsene Wenger. I owe him a great deal. I developed a better all-round game under him and I became more robust physically, learnt to look up more and play better passes and generally improved greatly as a team player. No player ever gets worse under Wenger.
“Obviously, I still look out for Arsenal each week and I hope they can do well this time. I think they will be in the top-four again and could even push for the title if they don’t have the terrible injuries of last season. People forget the long unbeaten run they had after Christmas last season, which was a good sign for this season.
“For me, leaving Arsenal was not a good move. A footballer only exists when he takes to the field and makes a proper contribution to the team and even though I was part of a Barca squad that was almost unstoppable, it was hard not to feel detached from all the happiness and celebration at the end.
“Barca were my dream club as a kid, but I couldn’t continue with them if the chance to play was not coming. I’m 28 and who knows how much time I’ve left in the game. I needed to move on and the chance to go back to a place that I feel happy in was the best solution.”
Arsene should print that out on some Arsenal FC headed paper and stick it up all over the dressing room just to let certain members of the squad know what not to do.
I must say, I feel a tad more respect for Alex Hleb now. I was a big fan of his and loved the way he played the game but his departure can only be a good thing as we probably would not have signed Andrey Arshavin who in most eyes including my own is the better player, at least the more decisive player.
Right, gotta cut short today. Back tomorrow.
