Goalkeepers & Defenders
Midfielders

Through a mixture off illness and sheer boredom of sitting at home, I’ve decided to analyse each individual player’s season so far. I’ve come up with highlights (and in some cases, lowlights) and where I see their Arsenal careers headed. So read on, McDuff…

EDUARDO

Highlight – all of his four goals, because they were all so different. First was the angled finish in the Champs League prelims against Sparta, then he was on the end of a lovely move between Cesc and Hleb against Sevilla, and then his brace away to Sheffield United: the first a howitzer from 20-yards, the second a calm one-on-one sidefoot. More please.

Lowlight – being marooned on the left-wing. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: would you play Robbie Fowler on the left of a 4-5-1? No? Thought not. Injuries haven’t helped either.

Future prospects – bright, as long as the fans remain patient. Remember that the Crozilian was bought on the back of Thierry’s departure so (subconsciously at least) most Gooners may see him as a direct replacement for the King. He has only had half a season here, some of which has been injury hit and when he has been fit has been played out of position. So I plead with you restless Gooners to GIVE HIM TIME!

ROBIN VAN PERSIE

Highlight – the winner against Sunderland, thank God he got it or that would have been embarrassing being 2-0 up and then drawing. And it was on my birthday as well, good stuff.

Lowlight – not in the red of Arsenal, but the Oranje of Holland. It looked a nasty injury and is proving to be so with his continued absence. People say he is injury prone, but his major injuries have been impact ones rather than muscular, so I don’t think he is *fingers crossed*

Future prospects – the attack should be built around him for years to come. I get a sneaky feeling that Spain’s big two are going to be on his tail soon though as both have strong Dutch influences these days.

ADE

Highlight – the volley at the Lane. Fan-bloody-tastic.

Lowlight – Ade has a barren spell once in a while, and he’s had a few of them this term.

Future prospects – well he seems to have Spurs’ number, so that’s a good thing. A tireless worker yet infuriating too. When on his own up-front he tends to drift wide a bit too much. The thing is this has its positives and negatives – both of which were illustrated against Villa. For the first goal he went wide to help Eboue out, and for the second he stayed in the middle to power home his header. One-on-one with the keeper his not still quiet there and in time may come under pressure from the following man…

NICKLAS BENDTNER

Highlight – Shearer-esque header against Newcastle for the Kids. Damn I’ve mentioned that game a lot today.

Lowlight – missing a sitter at Anfield which would have given us all three points.

Future prospects – some people have noted that he doesn’t get involved in the team huddles at the end of matches. Maybe with all the love for Ade in the squad he feels slighted? If his attitude is good then he can make it as I reckon he is clever and talented enough to partner almost anyone in our squad. However he could also go the way of Jeremie Aliadiere, another talented young striker who fell by the wayside. I reckon he’ll make it.

THEO WALCOTT

Highlight – that night against Slavia Prague, and especially his second goal. His hand in Cesc’s second was also encouraging.

Lowlight – not getting enough time up-front, just like Eduardo.

Future prospects – can become a world-beater or a flop. Thankfully, his attitude seems spot on and I liked the way he asserted himself in the penalty incident for the Under-21s recently. He is unfortunate in the sense that he is primarily looked at as a winger for us right now. He is more Michael Owen than Robinho and accordingly should get more gametime in the middle. But such is the nature of our squad this season I can’t see him getting many more chances up-front (apart from Carling Cup), especially with Robin coming back soon and Ade not going to the African Nations. However, he is still ridiculously young, so if himself, Le Boss and the fans are patient, then I reckon we’ve got England’s next no.10 in our ranks.

Thoughts? Agreements? Disagreements? That’s what the comments section is there for, so drop us a comment.
