Post Fulham / Hleb is my favourite player

Hleb has a fantastic football brain, technically superb, Two footed, unselfish, and a team player.

Nice to see another 3 points in the bag, but in a way it was nicer to see us playing the way that we have grown accustomed to.

The reason for our good performance wasn’t just Adebayor and his wonderful headered goals but it was our creative influence. Alex Hleb hasn’t been at his best since his injury against Aston Villa, Cesc Fabregas has had an understandable dip in form and Tomas Rosicky hasn’t been able to keep up his high levels with his two other triangle points unavailable.

To be fair, Fulham were pretty awful and did not put us under enough pressure to stop us from passing the ball. They played 5 across midfield but it looked like they had 3. Our fullbacks provided our width, especially Clichy who supplied a marvelous cross for Adebayor’s first goal. Clichy has been criticised on more than one occasion for his final delivery but his first time cross from Rosicky’s slipped pass was perfect.

It is nice to see our players putting balls into the box because Adebayor is more than capable of scoring headers like he did.

I have decided that Alex Hleb is infact my favourite Arsenal player. He may not have taken the crown of the best Arsenal player at present because surely that award goes to Cesc Fabregas but the way he runs at players in tight positions is priceless.

Hleb has a fantastic football brain, technically superb, Two footed, unselfish, and a team player.

When our team cannot find an opening by just passing, Hleb steps up a gear and drives past players which opens spaces and his relationship with Cesc and Rosicky will be the main reason if we win the league this season.

His cross from the right was very unlike Hleb but it was inch perfect. Hleb usually cuts in from the right with the ball at his feet and slides balls into players standing or running into the penalty area. Arsene may have instructed the team to play more crosses into the box as Fulhan were lacking height in their defence.

Last week, Hleb supplied an outstanding left footed cross to Eduardo who couldn’t finish. Ronaldo, Giggs, Wright-Phillips, Joe Cole would not have been able to play a ball like that on their weaker foot. Only Anders Limpar has a weaker foot to rival Alex Hleb.

Ok, I’ll leave the Hleb lovin for now.

Cesc Fabregas still seems a tad short of his brilliant best and was behind both Rosicky and Hleb in performance but if the rest of the team is passing well and working well then he will click into gear very soon.

Eduardo had a quiet first half and wasn’t very involved in the game but after half time Arsene must have told him to move around to the wings to collect the ball because he was very stationary in the first half. He came out like a different beast in the second period. Fulham couldn’t contain him. I was surprised by the ease that he beat players on occasions. I didn’t realise he was quite as talented as that. The period of play when he set up Rosicky to hit the post was quite breathtaking. He must have beat 3-4 players in the run and when he got to the byline he showed the same coolness in his finishing by looking up and picking out Rosicky.

He didn’t get any goalscoring chances but if he can perform like that when he is not looking like scoring then I am all for him to be a regular starter in this Arsenal team.

I have the feeling that our weary performances in the last few months are now over with and we will get stronger as the season continues.

In other Arsenal related news, David Bentley has described being at Arsenal as boring.

Please don’t get me wrong, sometimes I can be rash, but I honestly don’t have a bad word to say about Arsene Wenger. He didn’t pick me because he had world-class players, but I just wanted to play. But there was no banter there, it was boring. I like to enjoy my time, playing with my mates. This is a great job, I want to play it naturally and I wasn’t enjoying it. Enjoyment is everything.

So let me gets this right.. Arsenal are too professional for him. Like Paul Merson said on Sky Sports. Maybe he should become a comedian.

Right, have a good Sunday. Squid Boy’s Match report coming later.
