Early start today, I am going to Members days at the Gooners so need to get this up nice and early.

I went to the Arsenal Armoury yesterday to get ‘Mean Lean 11’ printed on my new away shirt and I started talking to the guy who was doing the printing about certain players in the squad and we got onto the subject of Jack Wilshere. I told him that it would be a matter of time before his number is lowered from the 55 we saw against Real Madrid. I came home and checked the latest Gooner news and found out that he has been given Gilberto’s old number 19 shirt.

It will be interesting to see how many games he manages to get in the first team this season because we all know he is good enough, but what we (the fans) don’t know is what he is like when the going gets tough, what happens when things are not going right for him. We don’t want to put pressure on the lad because of his tender age. I read that he was waiting for his GCSE results and that slapped me in the face. He is a kid, not a young man but a kid. Bring him on from the bench when we are comfortable but don’t use him as someone that has to change the game.

Van Persie has been speaking about his partnership with Adebayor.

When Thierry left I was very skeptical about the Adebayor and Van Persie partnership. I was after all used to the Bergkamp and Henry combination for many years. Putting together a lanky tall striker who misses chances with a talented youngster who hasn’t proved anything as yet was never going to work. But at the beginning of last season when they were together they did quite well, although they did not exactly link up that much, they just took turns to score goals. Infact they hardly scored in the same game, I may check those stats.

I have been impressed with Van Persie’s link up play in this pre season, better than I have seen it for a little while. Hopefully it will be enough for Arsene to keep him in that position in difficult European matches instead of using him wide left and playing Nasri/Rosicky behind Adebayor.

The more I look at the squad and the improvements in the side, the more I believe that we can win this league. We have such versatile players and strength in the final third. The question is still how we defend but if we won more of our drawn games during ‘that’ period that our goals against column wouldn’t have mattered, not saying that it isn’t important but I still feel that if Van Persie or Eduardo were fit in that final period of the league then we would be champions today.

There has been so much negativity from certain Arsenal websites about Wenger not buying this player and that player. Not just negativity but slating of our manager which has been infuriating. I really want to know what they will say if we win the league next season. I cannot imagine many holding their hands up and admitting that they do not know more than our manager.
