Arsene also hinted that he could be interested in bringing in a defensive midfielder which is great news. Those are the two areas that I think we need additions
Good afternoon all,
Arsene Wenger had his press conference which was aired this morning and most Gooners were interested to know what he would say about the Arshavin situation. Once again he had the chance to deny it but he said enough without saying much at all.
We do not want to talk too much about who we want to buy,” Wenger told Arsenal TV online.
“At the moment I cannot give you any good news but in this job no news is good news. Nothing has fallen through. We are on alert in the transfer market.”
Wenger has had the chance to deny it yet again and has dodged the question, so a silent Wenger speaks volumes.
Arsene also hinted that he could be interested in bringing in a defensive midfielder which is great news. Those are the two areas that I think we need additions.
Wenger said that there will be no players leaving which in my opinion means that buying a center half is no longer as important as it was before Djourou came into the side and showed his ariel power. He is by no means the finished article, but has looked very impressive overall so far. He will only get better from now on. We shall see what happens in the summer regarding Toure, Gallas and Silvestre.
Injuries have probably been the most difficult obstacle over the year 2008. This year was supposed to be the year where injuries are a thing of the past. Unfortunately 2009 looks very familiar to 2008 so far. News that William Gallas would be out for 3 weeks filtered through yesterday afternoon.
His French compatriot and central defender Mikel Silvestre is also out for roughly the same time which leaves us rather short in players and experience at the heart of the defence.
Depending on Kolo Toure’s own injuries problems, we could possibility witness a new partnership (this season) of Toure and Djourou against Bolton.
On paper that is actually a good combination but in reality Toure is way off his game right now. Thankfully the fixture is at Ashburton Grove and hopefully we will spend most of the game in their own half.
I am sitting here trying to come up with something remotely interesting to write, not that I usually write any anything of interest but there is sod all to talk about, I am running away from bloody transfer rumours but I keep bumping into it and it won’t get out of the way so let me just get this crap out of the way.
Our Parent club Barcelona (how they must feel) are apparently interested in bringing Van Persie and Cesc in the summer for some random amount of money. I think it was £50 million that the press made up that was the actual amount.
Well, why not double it then come back. When you do we will think about it for 3 seconds then tell you where to go in a slightly more aggressive tone. Throw in that amount plus Messi and we could think of doing a deal.
I was about to say that it is not their fault, so I shouldn’t have a go but I remembered that they are one of the Spanish giants who are known for planting stories in the press to unsettle players. If only other clubs had the same dignity as we do.
It annoys me because I am a lover of great football and Barca do tend to play great football over the years, so I have a sort of hate filled admiration for them.
Just flicked on newsnow and saw the Mass Exodus at Arsenal: Fabregas, Van Persie and Diaby to quit Gunners. Wenger to Follow under the top stories in the last 24 hours. Tut tut, why do people indulge in it?
Poor Charles N’Zogbia is just craving a move to us. Every time I read something to do with him he mentions Arsenal. The fact that he keeps mentioning us could have meant that Arsene has shown some interest in him in the past. I cannot imagine that he would interest him now though. Is he better than Armand Traore? I am not so sure.
ok, let me get back into more important things. Arsene said he has been experimenting with the side to add steel. He has also been experimenting with Nasri in the last few games. Nasri has been a positive influence from a central position, i am wondering if Wenger will play him there for 90 minutes. The trouble is we are lacking other wide players to allow him to do that. He has the option to move Van Persie out wide (I sure hope not) but hopefully he will not think too much about that as Robin has been in very good goalscoring form of late.
This is where a player like Mr A would be a huge benefit to the squad. Theo Walcott is back next month, but you will have to wonder what his sharpness will be like after a long time out. Theo strikes me as someone who has to build up momentum to get back to playing our football. More natural players like Nasri, Van Persie can come back after a long time out and adapt quicker because it is instinct to them. Theo Walcott is still developing his technique. We do however miss his penetration down the right. He was also a big outlet, especially away from home.
This cold is hurting my fingers now, so I shall stop and stick some gloves on. Back tomorrow with some pre Bolton chat.
