I do not really like the Toure, Gallas partnership. It doesn’t fill me with massive confidence. William Gallas is our captain and leader and will not be dropped so we can forget about that idea
We all wanted an experienced, quick, powerful defender who can play central and left side of defence but it appears that no everyone is happy with the £750,000 (alleged) signing.
I suppose the questions to Wenger are as follows.
1) Did you purchase Silvestre to go straight into the first team?
2) If yes, where does this leave Toure? Are you planning to move his position?
3) Do you still plan of buying a defensive minded midfielder? Or do you intend to move Toure or Djourou instead?
I would guess those are the thoughts of a vast majority of Gooners this morning. My views are something like this. I do not really like the Toure, Gallas partnership. It doesn’t fill me with massive confidence. William Gallas is our captain and leader and will not be dropped so we can forget about that idea. I am a big Kolo Toure fan and I feel that he adds power, energy and example to the side. I would like to see him get a run at central midfield alongside Cesc Fabregas.
He would also add that drive that our midfield often lack and has done since the departure of Patrick Vieira. When Toure has come out from the back he opens up so much space as he powers through in between midfielders. He would also have more room to demonstrate his long range powerful shooting. Some say that technically he is not good enough, but I would disagree with that.
Since Sagna got injured Toure and Gallas have not played together a great deal. Is that by accident? Wenger would have kept together a good partnership like Keown and Adams, he would not have moved Keown to right back. I think that Wenger sees a problem with that partnership and is trying to address it.
Saturday’s match with Fulham could well give us a few answers. but having said that we have had to deal with a round on pointless Internationals (they are always pointless to me) which Arsene will probably select his side around which players have had the most rest or have been on a shorter trip etc.
The players who took part were..
Robin Van Persie
Bacary Sagna
William Gallas
Johan Djourou
Nicklas Bendtner
Aaron Ramsey
Players who travelled but did not play were..
Theo Walcott
Gael Clichy (crazy isn’t it?!)
I think it is quite amusing that we could witness the French back four soon. Good form from Silvestre and the inevitable starting spot for Clichy would see a possible club and Country defence. I wonder if that has ever happened before.
I am going to be in hopfully sunny but probably rainy Dorset, so will need to go on a pub hunt to find the game.
Breakfast = Time to go.
Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.
Until tomorrow.
