Cesc on the other hand showed what being a winner is all about, he never shirked any responsibility he came on and got himself on the ball as quickly as possible
Cesc Fabregas recently came out with a statement that he thinks of himself as a man and not a boy now and I think everyone will now have to agree.
Cesc Fabregas was back on the bench even though he came on for Xavi against Italy and turned the game on its head. He grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck that day and he did it yet again in the semi final against Russia.
David Villa drew the short straw and pulled up with an injury after striking a freekick which was gathered up by the goalkeeper. As I saw that Villa couldn’t carry on, I wondered what other strikers they had in reserve apart from Guiza but it didn’t matter because Cesc Fabregas was warming up on the touchline waiting to come on. I was slightly surprised but excited that he will get time on the pitch to show what he could do.
The build up was all about one player, Arshavin. In the previous two matches he was majestic and made everyone stand up and take notice of what he can do on the world stage. The stage was set for him to take control of the game against the country where it is possible that he could ply his trade next season. Arshavin was poor last night and that can happen. You cannot expect a player no matter how much ability he has to turn it on every game but what you do want from a player is commitment and work rate. I have to say, I was disappointed. He showed no desire to fight for the ball and drag his team back into the game. At 1-0 down he was walking around the pitch and not looking interested. I was shocked.
Cesc on the other hand showed what being a winner is all about, he never shirked any responsibility he came on and got himself on the ball as quickly as possible. As in the Italy game, his introduction added a new dimension to Spain his vision and quick forward passing made Spain a different proposition.
Thank you Cesc for being loyal and committed to Arsenal. Thank you to Arsene and his scouting network for finding a 15-16 year old kid and developing him into the world class star that he is today.
Oh, and thank you Cesc for allowing me to write about something other than bloody transfer speculation.
Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.
Until tomorrow.
