The injury curse continues but have no fear, Theo and co are almost here

I do love Bacary’s attitude, he really does seem like a true Gooner. Always wears his heart on his sleeve and is a strong character

The second round of full internationals starts and ends tonight and we can get back to real footie on the weekend, the trouble is, will we have any sort of squad available to us on Saturday afternoon?

Kieran Gibbs is the next player in line to keel over and be shoved away from the first team and into the treatment room. It is quite crazy that Wenger recently said that November is the month when injuries first start to materialise and he unfortunately couldn’t be more correct. How many teams in this league of ours could cope with the regular injuries that this squad has had to deal with in recent times. We are still awaiting the news on how serious his ankle is. With established left back Clichy also out with a back injury of his very own it could be left to Mikel Silvestre to claim his first start of the season at left full back.

I must admit, I am not very excited about the Sunderland game now with our injury list growing, especially after the international break where we have often looked weary in the past. Please excuse my negativity, I think it is a reflection of my anxiety about the difficult games we have coming up.

I wonder if we have more chance of our players coming back injury free than crocked. For most other teams it seems that they are unlucky if they get a player back injured, with us it almost seems a standard procedure.

It is not all bad news right now as we have a list of crocks currently uncrocking themselves. Walcott, Denilson and Diaby should all be on the road to recovery and I assume that a few of those players will feature in the Manchester City game coming in the Caring Cup.

I don’t know what the deal is with Aaron Ramsey who suffered a back problem for the Welsh, I guess we will get the full run down on Arsene’s Friday press conference. That should make for nerve wracking watching.

Bacary Sagna’s agent is actually working for his client by declaring that the right back is happy at Arsenal following the usual rumours of interest from Juventus and other clubs who have trouble finding talent that isn’t flashing around in the spotlight.

Christophe Mongai said:

“Juventus have contacted us, but not recently and, in any case, they have never made an offer to Arsenal, It’s possible that Juventus has spoken directly with Arsenal, but nowadays the will of the player is decisive and he is fine in London and focused on his club and his national team.

“It is normal that a player like Sagna is linked with great clubs, for example Real Madrid last summer, but even if they made offers the player would not move.

I do love Bacary’s attitude, he really does seem like a true Gooner. Always wears his heart on his sleeve and is a strong character.

Manchester City have urges to learn the art of hunting for players instead of paying over the odds for players like Wayne Bridge.

Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook said:

“That is absolutely (a model to aspire to) because, financially, it’s a better model than one where you get into negotiating a market price that has no pre-determining factors other than supply and demand,”

“That’s a model I don’t subscribe to and one I don’t want to be beholden to. I would rather control or manage our destiny over the long term. What we are clear on is that we don’t think there will be another couple of windows like we have just been through. And I think you’re going to see Manchester City really ramp up its activity in the youth area, in the development area of players.

“There’s often opinion that we are just going to keep buying players, but that’s actually the antithesis of what we’re trying to do.”

This is certainly the way I expect many clubs to go in the future, they would have looked at our system and how well it is working. Chairmen are going to wonder why their managers are not approaching the game in this way.

In a few years time if not next season this will make life more difficult to us as we have pretty much dominated the youth market in the last few years and I expect that to be challenged by clubs with money to throw around in the attempt to prize them away from the Gunners.

I also expect plenty of tapping up when it comes to our young players. I hear Barcelona are already on a revenge mission by trying to pull Benik Afobe to the Camp Nou.

Right off to pray for the safety of our players.

Back tomorrow.
