The next three games are Wenger’s preparation for next season

We haven’t seen the best of this kid yet, I think many including myself at times have watched him and not taken into consideration

The rain has come out today in North London, I feel slightly like the weather today, although I know that sunshine is not far away this gloomy feeling doesn’t feel that great for the short term. I suppose this is how Tottenham feel from the first game of the season until the end, nothing to play for nothing to look forward to until the end of the season.

Well I am hoping that we can remain unbeaten in the league from now until the end of the season, that would give us a nice little platform for the start of next season.

There has been plenty talk about how far we supposedly are behind Manchester United but much can happen when the season ends. Just cast your minds back to last season when Manchester United were (said by many) playing much better football than this year. We went to Old Trafford and dominated. We did to them what they did against us in the first leg of the semi final. We didn’t take our chances and lost but we could have won it easily if we were sharper. That is the margin.

Two players from that starting team have left the club and Arshavin and Nasri have come in, Song has grown into a very good defensive midfielder so lets not get carried away about this massive gulf that is meant to exist. There is a massive gulf between us and Tottenham, not us and the Mancs who are admittedly a very good team.

One exciting positive I took away from the 2nd leg horror show was Samir Nasri. We haven’t seen the best of this kid yet, I think many including myself at times have watched him and not taken into consideration the amount of scope he has to improve, especially given the fact that it is his first season outside of his country and in the hardest league (at least physically) in Europe.

It looks like Arsene is grooming him for central midfield which is interesting. I thought Arsene would have wanted to do that over the summer months instead of during the end of the season but as we have no more trophies to play for, it could be a good time to watch closely for any hints for the new season.

I am interested to see how Arsene Wenger will fit in Van Persie, Cesc and Adebayor. It almost seems as if he no longer trusts Cesc’s defensive qualities because surely he would have gone back in there by now. I can only assume that Arsene has watched the teams defensive improvement during Cesc’s injury absence. As I said we will see hints of next season over the next few games. Last season we saw Denilson partner Cesc, we saw Arsene experiment with Alex Song at center half.

I know I bang on about this far too much but I hope to see Tomas Rosicky, Andrey Arshavin, Eduardo, William Gallas, Abou Diaby, Gael Clichy all warming up in training before the first game of the season. Surely this injury nightmare is going to leave the club at some point.

Speaking of injuries, Gael Clichy’s season is now over with, which is very understandable, there is no point rushing back any of Rosicky, Eduardo or Clichy when we no longer have anything to play for apart from third which we would hoping for Chelsea to lose another game as well as the game on Sunday against us so that may be asking a bit too much.

Wenger speaking about Clichy said:

“It is finished [for Ga?l]. We would have put a little pressure on the recovery period had we gone to the Champions League final. But now we will not take a gamble.”

Fair enough guv, no need to risk any lengthy damage, I think we have all had enough of damage to players.

There are rumours that Arsenal are close to agreeing a new contract with Theo Walcott. I never for one moment expected any problems with Theo Walcott about staying. I don’t know what the fuss was about. Well I guess I do with the press getting involved. A young player who joined Arsenal for all the right reasons would always stay with the club, especially with his recent development under Wenger.

I would love to know how much Theo is played as a striker in training. I was watching Spotlight on Arsenal TV featuring Emmanuel Eboue and he often plays as a forward and according to Bendtner does things in training that Ronaldinho would be proud of (or something like that)

That is Arsene’s football laboratory, where he tests his experiments like Petit from left back to holding midfielder. Thierry Henry from left winger to striker, Lauren from right winger to right back. How is his experiment going with Theo Walcott? Does he have a future as a super quick, explosive striker?

His finishes against Villarreal at home and Wigan away tells us that he can do certain things that Adebayor cannot do. I suppose all this depends on Arsene’s long term pecking order.

Right, my time is up, sorry for the incoherent waffle, it probably isn’t even in any order but it came straight from my head. Enjoy your Friday, I shall write about the Chelsea game over the weekend.
