Throwing defensive balance and height out of the window, this team would score an insane amount of goals. The passing and movement and attacking options would be just mouthwatering
Good Monday morning Gooners.
At this stage the only news doing the rounds if the aftermath of the Birmingham City game. Which is typical of a Monday. I watched the game on a few dodgy streams, I say a couple because they kept on crashing, so I found myself spending a quarter of the game hunting around for anything that would give me a glimpse into what was happening. Because of this, I missed the Birmingham City supporters signing about Martin Taylor when Ridgewell crashed into Theo Walcott and injuring the poor lad.
Arsene has described the Birmingham support as ‘atrocious’
Wenger said:
“That was frankly atrocious, They [the Birmingham fans] will not be remembered for the quality of their taste with that kind of remark.
“I didn’t say a word [when I heard the chant], I just thought ‘that’s low’.
“Eduardo was here for the game. I don’t know how he felt about the chants. I just put that in the ranks of stupidity, you want to forget about it and not talk too much about it because there’s not a lot to say.
“With people like that, one starts to say something stupid, everybody follows, even intelligent people. People lose their identity together, and their sense of responsibility.”
What else would you expect ey? I would have been more shocked if they actually showed any class so it doesn’t surprise me. A pack of neanderthal males in one small area then you can except atrocious behaviour.
I am much more disappointed by the tackle that led to the injury, it was reckless and aggressive regardless of if he won the ball, regardless of if it is the laws of the game. If Abou Diaby had won the ball and followed through in the same way then I can bet that the reaction wouldn’t have been the same.
Is it really a coincidence that Martin Taylor broke Eduardo’s leg so early in the game and a few years later Ridgewell scything through Walcott after seven minutes. I do not think so, like many acts of thuggery on the pitch it usually starts from the manager.
That wasn’t an isolated incident either, Birmingham City were flying into tackles like that throughout the afternoon. I remember a John Terry tackle on Cesc Fabregas where he won the ball and followed through with intent and yet again nothing was said about it. Something has to be done about this from the powers that be. There is nothing wrong with a committed challenge but there is certainly something wrong
It sure is very frustrating when we haven’t had the chance to see Theo Walcott properly this season, we haven’t had the chance to see the improvements he has made off the pitch, we haven’t had much time to see what he brings to the new system. The half hour or so he did show was very impressive for a player who has had much of a stop start season so far.
After Wenger’s comments it doesn’t look good. I am just waiting to be told the bad news with a faint hope that it isn’t as bad as originally thought.
Arsene Wenger thinks that six or seven teams can win the league this season which is being a tad generous I must say.
Wenger said:
“What is interesting in the League is it is much tighter than everybody predicted before the season. There are six or seven teams that have a chance at the moment. So we have all to be happy, take that potential in an intelligent way and think that when we are cruising we have to keep focused and not lose it.
“Chelsea have lost against difficult but not unbeatable teams. For a while everybody thought Chelsea would be out of reach but that was certainly not the case this weekend and that gives everybody a possibility.
“Sometimes the fixtures [make a difference] as well. We were lucky to play at home this weekend but Liverpool played away. It’s difficult away from home. After the last international break we lost at Manchester City. If you look the two teams that lost at the weekend, Chelsea and Liverpool, played away.”
In my opinion the usual suspects will still be involved, oh and I guess you cannot rule out Manchester City at this stage especially when they have the potential to spend more insane amounts of cash in January.
As sad as Liverpool look right now you cannot rule them out just yet but I do think that Chelsea with all their experience and “strength in depth” have the best chance of finishing second to us.
I was chatting to a Gooner pal of mine last night and we spoke about Theo’s impact on the start of the game and what he brought to the team, the topic then changed to how could we fit all of our attacking players onto the pitch in the same system and we came up with this.

Throwing defensive balance and height out of the window, this team would score an insane amount of goals. The passing and movement and attacking options would be just mouthwatering. I do not see a team in world football being able to stop that team. I really feel a little too old to be excited about creating attacking line ups but hey, that is what I guess for being a Gooner.
Gotta dash, back tomorrow for a pre match thoughts and predictions.
