If Arsene did walk away from the club, those who have been baying for Arsene’s blood will get a smack of reality right across their faces. The way he has been treated by some quarters you wouldn’t be surprised if he was to jump ship at the end of his contract
So Arsene is off to Real Madrid this afternoon? Again! Has anyone actually heard the full interview because I haven’t. Wenger said that the Real Madrid job could be interesting. Well, I’ll tell you what, interesting just says it all doesn’t it.
This is the way I see it. Arsene Wenger has a contract until 2011, it is currently 2009 and he doesn’t break contracts, so if he was to move then it wouldn’t be just yet. Does anyone know if Arsene is currently negotiating with the club about a new deal? I say this because whenever he reaches towards the end of his contract he very cleverly makes others around him aware that he is in demand.
Bottom line is that we shouldn’t be ranting and raving about this, running around our living rooms in a sweat of panic. As things stand, Arsene is looking forward to making the necessary tweaks to the squad to make us compete for trophies next season.

I nicked… well copied a comment from another blog about Wenger’s spending in the last 5 years.

5 Manchester United — £93,400,000
6 Aston Villa — £73,895,000
9 Sunderland — £68,930,000
7 Newcastle — £37,350,000
8 Middlesborough — £29,700,000
10 Everton — £23,900,000
12 Arsenal — £20,330,000
11 Portsmouth — £14,190,000

I think many feel that it is only Arsene who wants to balance the books, as if the board are throwing cash at him but he just picks it up puts it back into a suitcase and hands it back. Those who have followed Arsenal before the Wenger era will know that we have always balanced the books, we have always had a wage structure and have never paid over the odds for players.
For Arsenal to have only spent £20 million and recouped so much money back on players and still be classed as a top four side is incredible. The likes of Aston Villa and Everton are often lauded for competing against the big boys but when have we ever been mentioned by the media for fighting on all fronts whilst spending 9 million less than Middlesbrough who are soon to be relegated to the Championship.
Before I scramble for my lunch I would like to say sorry for the site going down since Friday, this was for no fault of my own, the server that hosts the site had a power failure so not much could happen until that was sorted. I missed out on doing a match report so I wrote a Match Thoughts instead. I think I will be going down that route from next season because I do not always have time to write in detail about what happened in the game. That as well as the fact that I am lazy.
Right lunch is screaming at me. “I’M COMING!!”
Back tomorrow.
