The window is closed, time to back what we have & My Hleb confusion

That phrase ‘We will never win anything with Almunia in goal’ is beginning to sound like some sort of fact and it is rather annoying if the truth be told

And thank goodness for that.

My day has been an absolute shambles and this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the transfer window. I woke up to a completely flooded house, not just a water filled house but a toilet water filled house with some ingredients mixed in, so as you can imagine watching the sky sports news hyper team try and exaggerate everything was not on the forefront of my mind.

Having said that, I did watch the last ten minutes or so to see if any last minutes rabbits had been plucked out of Arsene’s magic hat (god, he needs to put that hat on again this season)

It didn’t happen and to be honest I don’t really care too much. I was, like many hoping that the experienced Mark Schwarzer would be coming to the Emirates to compete with Manuel Almunia for the number one shirt, not because I think he is head and shoulders above our current number one but because I don’t think our number two is ready for a long run in the first team if injury happens to grab hold of Almunia and slap him in the face when he is not looking.

I have said it a thousand and one times, I will try and make it my last for this season, well at least until January but if we have the Almunia of two seasons ago then Mr Schwarzer is not needed for first team duty.

Many will be jumping up and down, frothing from their mouths that we do not have a goalkeeper. I can understand your concerns, but we are what we are. We have what we have, what will be will be etc etc.

It is time for us to back Manuel Almunia, give him the confidence that apparently he needs. When the Emirates team announcer guy says “Number 1, Manuel…” then a big Almunia along with a big cheer could well see him claim that first cross that bit easier. Might make him punch that punch that bit further.

Is Manuel Almunia the best goalkeeper in the world? No he isn’t. But when consistent and on form he is good enough to be our number one. He wasn’t in good enough form last season but that does not have to be permanent

That phrase ‘We will never win anything with Almunia in goal’ is beginning to sound like some sort of fact and it is rather annoying if the truth be told. We should have won the league 2007/2008. We were the best team in the league and sat on top of the league for a large chunk until injuries and awful decisions/luck went against us. Who was in goal that year?

Anyway, speaking of 2007/2008 Alex Hleb has joined Birmingham City on loan. *confused look* I don’t know whether to burst out laughing or to feel a little sorry for the bloke. He couldn’t wait to jump ship after Wenger moulded him into one of the best midfielders in Europe but has quite clearly realised his error and has stated that publicly. Unlike some, he hasn’t jumped on the anti Arsenal bandwagon either which is something many former players rather enjoy doing these days, or so it seems.

I hope he does well but then I hate the club he is playing for. Ok, perhaps not the club but the manager is one that I can quite easily push into the same room as Sam Allardyce, Tony ‘naked’ Pulis, Phil Brown etc and flush a poo filled toilet, so it can overflow.

Surely a bigger club would have wanted him? I don’t understand that one. A very talented player who I would have added something to our squad, not that he would be able to get in the team these days.

Coming back to our dealings, I have been more than happy with our acquisitions this summer. The two that I have seen have been fantastic, especially when you think about the amount of time they have had to adapt. Don’t be fooled into thinking that what we see is what we are going to get. A common mistake amongst many, including the so called experts.

Not only has Wenger brought in quality footballers, he has brought in winners. Winners that will hopefully give us something that we have missed at crucial times in recent years.

Little things such as Chamakh not giving up until the very end at Anfield, forcing the equaliser. Koscielny having the strength of character to bounce back from a torrid first half to produce a top display in the second when the team needed him. Instead of having to call on Mikel Silvestre (bless is lil cotton socks) we have the experienced psycho looking Sebastien Squillaci.

So instead of being upset that we didn’t bring 37 soon to be 38 year old Schwarzer in goal, we should be happy that the rest of the squad is nicely balanced and hopefully the new found steel (we pray) will help Almunia.

Before I go and continue to wipe the last bits of *shit off the walls, I want to wish Armand Traore good luck on loan at Juventus. It will be interesting to see a) how he does and b) where he plays. They are in a bit of trouble at the moment so I hope he can do himself some justice. I like the quick fella.

Back again tomorrow for some NON TRANSFER SPECULATION Wayyheyy!!!
