The leader and the sweeper, the attacker and the coverer. What ever you say they look pretty good. The real test is when the likes of Rooney and Berbatov come running at them
Well, well, well.
My ears were aching last week, continuous headaches! “We need a commanding center back and a holding midfielder!” ouch, the pain was unreal, but wait, listen *hand pointing towards ear* the screams are very quiet, my pains in my head are going away so that is wonderful.
We have a midget at the back who is now the new Vidic and we have a fuzzy haired dude in midfield who cannot play football turning into the best holding player in the Premier League.
ok, ok its all a bit early for all that, infact two games into the season is almost like pre season still so we have many games including very difficult matches to work out how far these players can grow but the signs are beyond fantastic.
The work rate from these players have been bloody marvelous. Does anyone know the stats from last nights game. I want to check how far Nicklas Bendtner ran, I remember late on in the game, I’m talking 80+ minutes, when Bendtner is sprinting to shut someone down. 2-0 up, late in the game, Bendtner is still sprinting to close down his opponents.
Without wanting to drag any negatives into this piece… what the hell happened last season?
Doesn’t every team talk start with ‘bust your gut to win the ball and then play football’
It was clearly not happening last season and I scratched my head as to why this was not happening so I wonder what has changed and why and when the manager has spoken to group. You do not win trophies by not working together, not fighting for the ball.
Whatever caused the change, it is a good change. I remember watching our victory to win the league at Old Trafford all those years ago and the whole team fought like crazy and that gave us the platform to win the game.
Wenger needs to buy some ‘No Complacency Allowed’ posters and stick them on the changing room wall along with Myles Palmers latest ramblings to inspire the team to greatness.
I am sticking my neck on the block here and I don’t mind being shot at come the end of the season but I feel that we are the best team in this league. We have all the talent for our first team and yes I am sure Wenger will add some to the numbers to cover injuries and ACN but man for man we are the best.
Going back to the work rate comment, Robin Van Persie has been talking about that very subject.
“The season is still young but we have played two important games, I think we showed in both that we really want to fight for each other and if we can produce that every three or four days, we can make a big step forward. Hopefully then we can have a great season.
“Maybe being written off [in the media] brings the players a little closer together but we will see what happens, I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to make the ‘enemy’ cleverer than they are!
“But if you look at the first two games, we played well. Our targets are as high as last year and if we can stick together and stay together and work hard for each other, we can make it a good season.”
Perhaps the media are good for something after all.
The impressive Thomas Vermaelen has deflected praise on himself to his partner Willy G.
He is very experienced, For me it’s much easier to play in a side with him because of that. I have already learned a lot from him.
“For us as defenders it is very important [to keep clean sheets]. It was also a good result to win 2-0. It’s better than 1-0 of course and for us it’s important.
“But Celtic are still a good team and against Moscow [in the Third Qualifying Round] they lost at home 1-0 but then won 2-0 away. They are still in the race so we have to keep concentrating and play the same game we did today.”
Don’t they just look like a match made in heaven. The leader and the sweeper, the attacker and the coverer. What ever you say they look pretty good. The real test is when the likes of Rooney and Berbatov come running at them, then we shall be able to test how good not only the partnership but how good the team is. If we have no injuries before the United game then I slap an Arsenal victory on the table and shout “How’d you like me now?!”
As may notice that I am a little bullish in my entry today but that is how I feel and I guess writing this blog leaves me open to criticism but I am not going to write what I do not believe, even if it is too early to comment.
Thats about that, have a good one and back tomorrow.
