Ho ho ho, merry Christmas eve and all that. That is my best shot at trying to get into the festive spirit, it really isn’t working for me right now. Perhaps this is due to the lack of real Arsenal news at the time of writing.
Newsnow has always been my trusty news source, you used to be able to find a good array of articles, stories or even some really good tactical ramblings. You would get the odd article that was begging for a click. ‘Arsenal set to tie up record mega deal super smash’ that would have the 12 year olds fighting over themselves to click through and pretend that it could actually be real. I’ve been there myself, the only thing is that in my day we didn’t have the internet, urggh I sound like an old man now. In my day we had to phone up the 0891 (or whatever it was back then) numbers to listen to a man talking really slowly throughout the whole phone call only to say reports say that George Graham has been keeping an eye on QPR forward Les Ferdinand. The amount of times I got an earful for the enormous phone bills.
Nowadays it is free to get fed absolute rubbish and unfortunately it is now dominating the news feeds. About 90% of the ‘news’ is complete tosh.
Ajax, Arsenal locked in player transfer talks
Van Persie could make shock £30 million move
Arsenal make £4.5 million offer for 18-year-old wonderkid
Arsenal Ready to Bid for Real Madrid Youngster
Wenger sets sights on Vertonghen
I understand that it is close to January and the time to feed people rubbish is now but even so, it is so depressing and boring to keep looking at these headlines when all I want is some good thought provoking, interesting and real content to read. You may only get the latter here but at least you get that.
At least we have the transfer windows in place though. Can you imagine if we had to deal with those all year round?
Here is some really big news though, Arsene Wenger will not sign David Beckham. Yes, it has now become as desperate as that. Can I throw some more names in there?
‘Wenger will not sign Chris Kiwomya as he still has faith in Robin Van Persie’. How about ‘Carlton Palmer to Xmas list to give competition to Alex Song?’
Arsene Wenger did say that he had no room for Beckham in his squad due to the current members but I think he is just being polite and it was the same with Robert Pires. Wenger as always is very respectful and wouldn’t say ‘There is no way I would sign these players because they are clearly over the hill and would be a hindrance to my team’
Wow, I have just realised that I sound very miserable so far so I will try and brighten up a little.
Well I will after I get this part out. Arsene is not a very happy chappy regarding the FA’s demand for Jack the boy Wilshere. Both the under 21s and full England squad want to have Wilshere in their plans and Wenger does not agree that it is good for the player.
We have already been through this with Theo Walcott and we all saw what that did to him, it was a factor in him missing a chunk of the next season.
It is not fair on Wilshere either. He has already played a lot of football and does not need to be over worked and under pai…. ok, perhaps just the over worked part.
The under 21s should be about player development and getting players to the next level. Jack Wilshere is now an established Premier League player, perhaps they should be looking at another young prospect. At Arsenal the reserve team is for development purposes, to improve players so they can get into the first team. It is not about putting out the strongest team every week to win the reserve league, it is about playing players in different positions to add different strings to their bow’s etc. The FA should really take a leaf out of Arsenal’s book on this and many other aspects for that matter.
It will be interesting to see if Wilshere starts on Monday, he has played all the big games so far this season. Away at Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. With Abou Diaby back in contention and having a full week of training behind him I have the feeling that Wilshere may well drop down to the bench. Diaby’s performance at Stamford Bridge was very good and his power may well be needed.
My Arsenal Barcelona obsession has taken a back seat over the last few days. The Chelsea game has taken over and I cannot get it out of my head. I don’t actually know how I could deal with another defeat against them but I am very confident that we can beat them this time. It is quite annoying that they have now returned to full strength in time to face us but at least we are pretty much at full strength for a change.
Guess what the result was the last time Cesc and Van Persie started a league game together against Chelsea? Chelsea 1 Arsenal 2. I would be more than happy with a repeat of that on Monday night.
The players have had a full week to train together without interruption, a full week to work on partnerships, to work on strategies to stop and hurt our rivals.
Chelsea have also had the same time, that along with both teams being strong should make it a very interesting game and should give us a good indication as to how close or far we are to the team erm.. beneath us. Go figure.
Although to level the playing field even further you could bring back Alex and shove Terry to the treatment room, but I’ll take it as it is.
Before I go I would like to introduce you to DrakeGoona, a new writer on Arsenal Vision and should be making his debut after the Chelsea game. Talk about being thrown into the deep end. Hopefully he will bring us good luck.
I am visiting the in-law’s tomorrow so I may not be around, if not then have a very Merry Christmas.
