Interesting comments by our manager regarding the transfer window. I wanted to write a few words on it before the City game comes up and takes over.

Wenger said:

“I didn’t feel we were in the need to buy anybody but we will be out on the market that is for sure now. However we will only make a decision if it suits us.”

Firstly he sounds very certain about that. Usually it is the normal if we find a player at a good price that has exceptional talent then we might be interested but we have x,y,z so it is not important for us. Or something along those lines so it was surprising to hear Wenger speak the way he did.

So if Wenger is interested in bringing in a front man then why announce it? I thought the reason for not announcing needs is to keep prices low?

Wenger has come out and has expressed an interest in a position and has not done anything about it, so I would not be surprised if this was the case once again.

Is Wenger speaking to his forwards? I will be looking in the market tells the likes of Eduardo, Vela, Bendtner and Walcott that they need to up their game, they need to produce, they need to fire us the goals to keep us in the race for trophies otherwise we will look for someone who can.

This of course could be conjecture. Wenger was openly looking at Marone Chamakh as a player who could slot into his squad, had the price been right then he may well have been a part of our squad this season. Personally I am surprised that Arsene would bring another forward in just for one player being unavailable, if he felt he was short in that area then I would have thought that an addition would have been made.

Will Arsene buy an up and coming forward or a player who can come in and keep that central role himself? If Wenger does buy someone I hope it is someone with pace and power. I love Van Persie, he has become vital to our play but I do miss blistering pace. Pace that only Walcott and Vela really have.

Looking for a player who is strong, powerful in the air against commanding center backs, ability to hold the ball up, quick enough to leave defenders behind, talented enough to play our pass and move as well as being deadly when confronted with the goalkeeper would be a tricky task, especially at a price that Arsenal as a club would approve. I would say that there aren’t any of those players on the market but I do not have a scouting system working for me looking around the leagues. I must say that is one of my pet hates when people not in the game assume that players are not available.

We have a few months to wait to find out any answers we may have, in the mean time it is down to our current front men to show the ability they have and the reason why they were signed for Arsenal in the first place.

Carlos? how about starting tonight by blowing City away.
