Van Persie, the man without a position / Rosicky talks

To me Van Persie is one of the few players who doesn’t really have a position. He is just a natural footballer with supreme ability. I do not see him as an out an out goalscorer, he is not really a link man regardless of his fantastic ha-assist trick on Saturday

Hello there again,

A fairly quiet day Arsenal wise so far. I have a couple of choices to get through this post. Either I waffle loads of crap which I am pretty much an expert on or I go over some points from the Hull City game which I sort of did in the Match Review so I will try and not repeat myself.

It was a decent display at the KC stadium from the young Gooners. We are currently lacking creative inventive players and at 1-0 up that kind of showed. We were unable to get the second and kill off the game which you would expect from a side that is missing Cesc, Rosicky, Walcott etc

Our back four have done well over the last few games and yes you can point to a lack of attacking quality from the opposition but that has not stopped us shipping goals at certain parts of the season so far. Clichy seems to have the worst mistake to opposition goal ratio in the world. I was furious when I first saw it but when you look at the replay you realise that Mendy had a team mate storming up outside him and Mendy also has the pace to fly past you so Clichy was trying to stop a situation where he was taken out of the game which would have left a wide player coming straight at goal.

You also have to remember that Clichy does not have Eboue in front of him to help him out, he has so much work to do every game with his attacking runs as well as the interceptor and he also has to stop fullbacks as well as wingers. So those who are overly critical. Give the guy some slack.

Abou Diaby has an efficient game in central midfield, probably the most controlled performance he has put in, in the center of midfield.

I still have goose bumps about Samir Nasri’s finish for the second goal. He looked like a young kid being coached how to hit the ball on his weaker side. The training paid off because it was a fine finish.

To me Van Persie is one of the few players who doesn’t really have a position. He is just a natural footballer with supreme ability. I do not see him as an out an out goalscorer, he is not really a link man regardless of his fantastic ha-assist trick on Saturday. He is not a winger or a midfielder. He is a match winning attacker who is getting better and better. His work rate lately has been wonderful to see and lets hope the other players can follow suit.

8 games unbeaten is not to be sniffed at. Everton away will certainly be a test of the progress of this team, a victory and we could mount one last effort on this league thingy.

We are all (well most of us) waiting to see if we have Arshavin on board for the run in. Hopefully we will have him unveiled for Arsene’s Friday press conference. We are currently using our strikers (Vela and Bendtner) to give us that extra from wide areas. I may be jumping the gun slightly here but I’ll go with it… I hope he can settle in and make the kind of impact that Nasri has done since the start of the season. Wenger gives his players 6 months to adapt but the truth is every player is different physically, mentally and confidence wise so it just depends on the player. Should he arrive then I will be interested to see how Wenger balances the team. Eboue has been hot and cold (very cold against Hull City) of late but he is the one player from wide areas who gives some protection. As exciting a midfield of Nasri Denilson Diaby Arshavin looks on paper, it could well get exposed against able sides.

Then again a 50% pass completion rate is not really protecting our defence is it?

Question? Why do the media love a ‘we can win the league’ story every other day? They have asked Adebayor this question once again and his answer was..

“Why can’t we win the title?

“If we keep going and keep winning games, let’s see where we are at the end of the season.

“At the moment we are six points behind Manchester United, but at one stage last season we were 10 points ahead of them and they still went on to win the Premier League, so it’s not over yet.”

The next game win, lose or draw the same question will be asked. Isn’t it a bit boring now? Can they not come up with something original?

William Gallas has indicated that he will see out his contract at Arsenal which would squash any Milan rumours.

Gallas said:

“There is no tension. I play. I give the maximum for the club,” he told the French press.

“I am concentrating on my future, finishing my contract with Arsenal and seeing where I’ll go in two years.”

I still think that Gallas is our best defender and if he can keep his down and concentrate on his game then it can only benefit our team.

Before I go, I want to talk about some great news, well hopefully great news. Tomas Rosicky has been speaking about his current fitness.

“Everyone surely knows that I am not in my ideal state of mind, the one I used to be in when was in Arsenal’s starting line-up two or three times a week,” he told his own website.

“Now I am playing a different game. I have been working hard every single day and want to be back soon. I need to be patient. I have to respect Arsenal management’s decision not to comment on my state of health, as it’s their choice and they have been doing their maximum to have me back in action.

“I am not the first or the last football player who has been sidelined for a year. I am looking forward to when I will be able to say to the fans ‘I am fit and going to play at the weekend’. I believe it will not be a long wait.”

It almost brings tear to my eye. I really do miss Rosicky, more so than Eduardo if I am honest. Obviously the circumstances have made Gooners more emotional about the return of Eduardo but for the good of the team, I think we have missed Tomas even more.

Fingers crossed it is the end of his injury nightmare soon.

Right, nothing much else to go on so I shall call it quits. Have a good day.
