We all know Senderos should have done better. We all know that Senderos was spending to much time watching Sami Hyppia instead of putting him off his leap
2 goals at Anfield, total domination of the ball in the first hour of the match, Eboue having a great energetic performance and a wonderful assist from Theo Walcott. Surely that is enough to see us go into the semi finals. Unfortunately not in this case.
There are so many positives to take from this game, but how can you take positives seriously when you lose such an important match.
I cannot remember the last time when I celebrated a goal like I celebrated Diaby’s early strike. I was watching the game with a few mates and the first goal made us do a super charged ring-a-roses type action for a good couple minutes.
We were in total control of this tie. The Liverpool crowd were hushed by a high tempo confident team. Hleb, Fabregas and Diaby were pulling Liverpool all over the pitch. The joy of it all was the way every move was penetrating and not just sideways passing for the sake of passing.
Another piece of give away defending that we seem to do every game these days allowed Hyppia to power in a wonderful center forwards header from the experienced central defender. We all know Senderos should have done better. We all know that Senderos was spending to much time watching Sami Hyppia instead of putting him off his leap.
Emmanuel Eboue is not on many Arsenal fans Christmas card list including my own, but credit to him. He hit his run of poor performances with a powerful, explosive and technically good display. He got out of many tight areas with sharp accurate passing.
Fernando Torres supplied Liverpool with that touch of magic that Arsenal have not had for a long time in that final third. It is the kind of goal that Thierry Henry did score for Arsenal and the type of strike that Ronaldo can pull out of the hat at the big stage,
That goal didn’t actually make alot of difference. Arsenal still had to score a goal to win the game and Wenger went for it. On came Walcott and Van Persie.
It took both substitutes a while to get into the game and get on the ball. Eventually Theo got the ball and what an amazing run for the youngster. That piece of play from Walcott should have won the match for Arsenal. It deserved it, When the game is stretched like that on a big pitch there is one player you want confident and on the ball.
But like against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge we could not hang on to what we had. My throat was still burning from me cheering our ‘winner’ until we buckled once again. Kolo Toure who has not found his best form since coming back from the ACN. Was it a penalty? Whether it was or not it was certainly 70% less of a penalty than Hleb’s tug back from the Dutch referee.
Steven Gerrard’s penalty was just classy, from a quality and mentally strong player.
Ryan Babel’s goal was the icing on the cake for the Liverpool team who played some good football during the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half.
I am sure I will be reading from certain fans that we will have to sell everyone and buy a new team but there were alot of positives to take from the game. I am totally gutted by this but I hope we come back next season stronger with a few squad additions.
I was pretty disappointed with Van Persie who has the talent to make such an impact. It is fair to say that hasn’t had enough ganes to make an impact in such a big game but I would have liked to have seen him get into the game more when he came on.
It was a good performance, our best since Ac Milan and it goes to show what the team can do when they put the effort in. It is clear that we didn’t treat the matches such as Wigan, Birmingham, Aston Villa and Boro like this, if we did we would have surely been in a better position in the league. Lets go to Old Trafford in the same frame and who knows, we surprise a few people.
try and enjoy your day.
Until tomorrow.
