Wenger could extend stay & why things should be different this summer

Once again correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the new sponsorship deal, especially considering that some of it has been front loaded mean that the need to sell expensive players from our squad has been negated? Failing that, what about the new television deal that will be tucked into bank

Arsene Wenger has hinted that he wants to extend his stay at Arsenal which is bound to see one side of the fence slump to their knees in floods of tears while the sound of wine glasses being clinked together can be heard from the other side of this weird Arsenal supporting divide.

Arsene said:

“I believe that this club is today in a very, very strong position and has gone through a very sensitive period in a very intelligent way,”

“After that, everything is here to have a great future. We have a good fan base, we have now a strong financial situation, we have good young players and a squad with a bright future with the quality of the young players we have. It is just [important] to manage it well now.”

He also said:

“Every football game excites me and football in general still excites me. My love for this club as well. I want to stay if I do well and if I consider or the Club considers that I do well, that is all.”

Which in my head makes perfect sense.

My maths isn’t my strong point, far from it and correct me if I am wrong here but since we moved to the Emirates the accounts suggest that if you exclude selling players then we have not really been rolling around in cash. Like I say, correct me if I am wrong on that.

So assuming that is the reality, the cash in the club is due to the managers ability to buy cheap and sell high. It is clearly not a sustainable plan to work this way for the long term, luckily for us we do not need to work this way any longer.

Once again correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the new sponsorship deal, especially considering that some of it has been front loaded mean that the need to sell expensive players from our squad has been negated? Failing that, what about the new television deal that will be tucked into bank accounts all across the Premier League? And that is not to mention the new kit deal which is around the corner I hear.

So any questions of ‘why should this summer be any different’ can hopefully be answered above. Only time will tell but there is a difference between recent history and this coming summer.

When he looks at his squad and can see the potential of Jenkinson, Wilshere, Ramsey, Chamberlain, Gibbs, Walcott and others he must feel that there is plenty to come from the group of players he already has and that is without the expected additions to the squad this summer.

Arsene has said a number of times in the past that young players start to really kick on and show their quality from roughly 23. Rambo is 22 and you can already see the improvement in his game, the rest of the young Brits are all around that age also so hopefully we will have that core together for some time.

All very interesting and exciting if you ask me, which you never I know.

Back tomorrow with a match preview.
