Arsene Wenger has been talking to the official site about youngster Brek Shea (video) who is training with the club and he has also spoke his mind about the future of the game.
Wenger said:
I believe there is two aspects of the development of the game, that will certainly influence the modern game, one will come from the States the football is becoming more and more popular and the quality is rising, that’s one part that will influence the modern game.
The second big part, I’m convinced will be Asia. These are two continents that will be the future of the game and America will produce more and more top level players and Asia as well. In these two countries they have an aptitude to have a team attitude and hard working attitude and I think that once they get the education, they will produce good players.
Aptituding, attituding tongue twisting apart, I think the boss makes plenty of sense. Football or soccer is catching up to those who have clung onto the game since before time and now the sport is being taken a lot more seriously than a few years ago.
I assume that the branching out of coaches has something to do with the tactical side of the sport improving in less football obsessive countries.
Ju Park and the already much loved Ryo Miyaichi are two Asian players who are currently on our books. Junichi Inamoto was another Asian who came to Arsenal on loan from Japan but never quite made the grade at the club.
The Premier league number of Americans has been on the increase for a while, strangely American goalkeepers have been popular over this side of the water. The likes of Kasey Keller, Tim Howard, Brad Friedel, Marcus Hahnemann and a few others.
Americans have not been limited to being stuck in goal though as Fulham forward Clint Dempsey is showing so capably right now.
Given the fact that America has been a top sporting country since the beginning of time you would imagine that as the sport continues to grow we will quickly see some outstanding talents coming out. They have some catching up to do, so watching the possible future conveyor belt of talent coming through should be interesting.
