Arsene Wenger has finally admitted to chasing Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin. He is optimistic that a deal can be reached before the end of the transfer window.

Wenger was talking to the press about his transfer plans

“We are not close to signing anybody, but we know what we want to do,” said the Frenchman.

“We are not close to making a signing today, so we have no new news. We are in negotiations but we want to respect our principles.”

There certainly seems to be a stand off between both clubs, with Zenit wanting to get as close to £20 million as possible. Arsene Wenger is still confident of the deal going through before the end of the window.

Wenger was asked if he was confident of the deal going through and how long could take.

“I am very hopeful, Days? Yes, because the transfer window will close and we have already crossed halfway. It will be days. But, if it doesn’t happen then it doesn’t happen.

“We want to continue to improve and focus on what we can improve here with the players we have.”

Arshavin’s agent indicted a few days ago that his client was likely to move somewhere early next week.

The wait continues.
