Even if Arsene does decide against bolstering the squad we will have one new massive signing coming in no matter what happens
It was the news that some sections of Arsenal fans didn’t want to hear, talk of huge profits and 70 million war chests was bound to get some Gooners excited at the prospect of splashing out 35milion of some Brazilian superstar somewhere out there but the other section of Arsenal fans (such like myself) knew and are happy that Arsene Wenger’s policy of bringing through young players and keeping the 95% of the squad together is the best policy.
“We have money because we made money, and we made money because we made the right decisions. I believe a football team is not about buying and selling. It is about building, patience, working together and going through a growing process. Also, it is enjoyable now to see the team coming up slowly and see how well they can do.”
The likes of Gilberto, Lehmann and possibility one more player will leave during the summer transfer window and I am sure Arsene will be looking to replace those players with either players in the youth team or buy a Sagna, Eduardo type of signing. A player not on everybody’s lips but has the quality and mental strengthen to make the step up.
Like I have said time and time again on this section, the most important thing is for us to keep the core of the team together so they can learn and improve because most of them have another 30% to come out, and considering our current position in the table it will be a massive difference.
Even if Arsene does decide against bolstering the squad we will have one new massive signing coming in no matter what happens. Carlos Vela is proving to be a massive talent in Spain and will be on a plane to England when La Liga season finishes.
It is likely to take him a while to adjust to the English game as it does for 90% (percentage day today) of players. But who knows, he may just be like Bacary Sagna and slot in like he has played here all his career.
We have been lacking goals from midfield this season as we have done since the departure of Pires and Ljungberg but hopefully the arrival of Vela can change that. Although he is naturally a striker he has played out on the left for Osasuna
First thing is first he will have to oust Tomas Rosicky from the starting 11 (If fit of course)
Alot of supporters have been complaining about our lack of squad depth and it has taken its toll in the last few weeks but you have to think about the number of players in our squad at present which is roughly 24 first team players.
Only Chelsea (That I can think of) have suffered injuries anywhere near as vast as ours. We have had Van Persie, Eduardo on long term injuries, Rosicky and Diaby have been in and out with injuries from the start of the campaign. Denilson, Cesc, Hleb, Flamini, Gallas and Toure have also be struck down with injuries throughout the season and it has caused us problems. Arsene has alot of players who can play in a variety of positions and this has compensated for the lack of numbers available
One squad position I would like Arsene to strengthen is at left back. Clichy is fantastic but after him we do not have alot of cover. Armand Traore is a good prospect but even at 17 his defensive displays have been severally lacking.
Alex Hleb has come out and spoken about Jens Lehmann’s behaviour for the first time.
Hleb told The Sun: “At first, when Jens was not picked, he was very angry. He did not speak any more.
“He has a good heart – as long as we speak about private things.
“But when he stands on the training ground he becomes a different person. The way he acts there sometimes needs getting used to.”
“Jens had a few problems, that’s why Almunia got his chance. Almunia is very popular.”
That last line spoke volumes. It sounded like Almunia is one of us and Lehmann is an outcast. Arsene will want to get rid of him for moral reasons at the very least.
Patrick Vieira has been speaking about Arsenal and Liverpool’s Champions League hopes.
“Liverpool were tough opponents and they can go on and win it now,” said Vieira. “They have done it before and they know exactly what it is about at this stage.
“They know how to get through these ties, as they showed against us, and they know how to win the cup. They are the side the others will want to avoid now.”
“I hope Arsenal win it,” Vieira added. “They have been waiting a long time to win this trophy and they deserve to win it.
“I watched them in the San Siro last week and they were incredible. It was a wonderful performance.
“They not only won, but they won brilliantly and with style and that counts a lot.
“In terms of quality they have an outstanding chance now and I really hope they do it.”
People go on about experience to much as far as I am concerned. Ac Milan are one of the most experienced sides in Europe and we wiped the floor with them. It is about quality, team work and confidence.
I am excited about the draw tomorrow, I hope we do not get either Chelsea or Manchester United so that probably means we will get one of them.
Henry explains his unhappiness at Barcelona but I spoke about him yesterday so I won’t go into it today.
Well that is about it for now, back again tomorrow.
