Cesc Fabregas is every hack’s favourite subject at present and his name has been printed once again. This time they have thought a little outside the box, someone has cooked up something really special which would have taken them a long time debating.
Another good afternoon to you,
I class today as a good afternoon as the International week has come to a close, well a temporary close at least. If Arsene is anything like myself then I imagine him sitting in his office, trembling by the phone, nails half way down his fingers due to nervously eating away at them. Wenger would be calling around finding out the health of his players. Six different games last night included Arsenal players and at least two of those players found their way onto the score sheet.
Arshavin tapped in from close range as Russia were disappointingly held by Azerbaijan. Aaron Ramsey scored a very Beckham-esque free kick for the Welsh as they beat Liechtenstein 2-0. The young Welshman is really making a name for himself at International level which once again reinforces his quality. Not only the quality but the desire to take it and clearly his team mates respect him and his ability enough to allow an 18 year old to take free kicks at that level. This can only bode well for his club side.
I read on Gooner Talk that Gael Clichy may have struggled with an injury for France against Austria, and even though the player was struggling with a problem, he wasn’t replaced. I guess we will only know once Wenger and his staff have the chance to get the players back to assess their fitness.
If the worst was to happen to Clichy then I suppose a home match against Birmingham would be a good time to bring in the inexperienced Kieran Gibbs. Although not as dynamic and energetic as the Frenchman, my opinion is that the Englishman has more quality in the final third, both in crossing and shooting so as I expect Birmingham to only play one way. They have played 4-5-1 for most of the season so far, so I do not expect that to change at the Emirates.
Cesc Fabregas is every hack’s favourite subject at present and his name has been printed once again. This time they have thought a little outside the box, someone has cooked up something really special which would have taken them a long time debating. They have bravely pushed aside the Barcelona and Real Madrid data that has been printed out and instead have run with a new story of Cesc being chased by Manchester City.
Wow, well done, I bet whoever thought of that one is very proud of themselves. Apparently this has come from Spain, which figures given the inside information that they must have in Manchester.
I was watching bits and pieces of the England vs Belarus game and something struck me, cannot quite put my finger on it actually. The Belarus player have good technique, passed the ball well, dribbled very effectively and looked very tidy but had absolutely no threat in the final third. They had chances to shoot but took the pass instead or passed until they lost the ball. I almost get a sense of deja vu strange really.
I am truly spoilt when it comes to watching football. I find it really difficult watching many other teams with a few exceptions. I am so used to watching a side that spend most of their training sessions passing and moving, knowing where a team mate is going to run to. Being encouraged to play the ball out instead of just whacking it away back to the opposition.
This is partly why I dislike the Internationals. Watching England is so boring, it is like watching Chelsea or Liverpool. I think we as Arsenal supporters take our quality football for granted at times.
Hand on heart, I can say that I would rather we played the way we played and challenged for the league instead of playing route one football and winning it. Come to think of it, it is an easy decision.
It is only a matter of time before we combine the pair anyway, so there needn’t be an argument.
Yesterday Cesc Fabregas had some great things to say about Tomas Rosicky, now our captain has passed praise onto the new guy. Thomas Vermaelen.
Cesc said:
“I’m a big fan of him. He’s been doing so well, It’s difficult in this position, especially from centre back because you will always be compared to some other players, or if you know that your defence is one of your weaknesses then you have to do even better to be loved by the people, and I think the fans clicked straight away with him since his first game.
“He scored a goal [in his first game at Everton], played amazing, his confidence is high at the moment. And with the ball he’s really good. He’s like one more midfielder.
“These days, to have a centre back that can play, you know, these balls on the ground, between the lines, and past players, for players like me in midfield it’s really good because it gives you so much time and so much space on the ball. It’s really good.
“The way he is playing I don’t think he needs any advice [from me]. I am sure he is a very strong guy with a strong mentality. You can see he has been a captain before because he is strong and he knows how to lead a team.”
It is quite amazing how quickly he has settled in, from the very first Premier League game. His absence from the Emirates cup proved to be a good thing in the end, The Everton game was a nice surprise for the Arsenal fans. I agree with Cesc when he says that it is like having an extra midfielder. I noticed very early how good he was at bringing the ball forward and zipping a pass into the midfield through the eye of an needle. His shooting is a big added bonus, he can probably strike the ball better than most of our midfield.
It is quite remarkable to think that a) he is 23 and b) he hasn’t been noticed by one of the other big sides in the last few years. Well noticed enough to buy the player.
I would quite like to see how the Senderos and Vermaelen combination against a physical yet slow strike force. Two dominating center backs who throw their bodies at the ball and tower over strikers in the air.
ok well until we get the injury round up, I guess there is nothing else to talk about. Have yourselves a great day.
Back tomorrow.
