West Brom (a)Thoughts & Line Up: Rosicky or Wilshere should be Arsene’s only real decision

Özil, Ramsey and Rosicky was sublime at times. In fact it was our best football arguably for some many years. So the question is does Arsene bring back a rested Wilshere? The answer isn’t as straight forward when you consider that Rosicky is 33 (happy birthday Tomas) and he will be jetting off with the Czech Republic. Personally, I believe that Rosicky makes the team play better and if he wasn’t at his sharpest against Napoli then I want to see him sharper and then given another go in the side

Another tough game on the road this afternoon, not that playing away from home should concern us too much given our fine form away from the Emirates stadium. Our opponents should have their tails up themselves today after not only a very good result at Old Trafford last week but also a very impressive display as they showed plenty of belief to keep the ball and attack the Champions at their own ground.

That said, West Brom will be playing a top side rather than a mid-table one *mischievous chuckle*

I suspect jokes of this nature can only last so long as It’s only a matter of time before Manchester United come back towards the top of the table, that is why these types of games, as tricky as they can be must be won or at the very least not lost.

The longer we go on this winning run, the more the players are likely to believe, especially after a performance like we pulled out of the bag against Napoli.

Looking at the West Brom squad it surprised me to see how much quality they had. Players such as Amalfitano, Sessegnon and Morrison are all dangerous players and we will have to be at our best to contain them when they have the ball.

We have one more injury since the Napoli victory, Bacary Sagna will not take part in the match, so Carl Jenkinson will get a game. He is young but he rarely lets us down so while it is disappointing to lose Bac who has been back to his best this season, it is also good to give Jenkinson another go to prove his quality.

Ramsey will be looking to continue his impressive form even if some betting offers available suggest he won’t.  it will be interesting to see how he performs in a wide area again, he was unbelievable in that roaming wide role against Napoli. Incredibly he didn’t score a goal on Tuesday, not quite sure what the world is coming to. Maybe he is saving them for today.

As Walcott, Cazorla, Podolski, Chamberlain, Sanogo and Diaby are all still very much on the treatment table you’d think that we will start pretty much as we did on Tuesday. I say pretty much because there is still one decision for the manager to make. Jack Wilshere or Tomas Rosicky.

Rosicky came in to rest Wilshere in the Champions League and was a little rusty in the second half yet some of the link up play between Özil, Ramsey and Rosicky was sublime at times. In fact it was our best football arguably for some many years. So the question is does Arsene bring back a rested Wilshere? The answer isn’t as straight forward when you consider that Rosicky is 33 (happy birthday Tomas) and he will be jetting off with the Czech Republic.

Personally, I believe that Rosicky makes the team play better and if he wasn’t at his sharpest against Napoli then I want to see him sharper and then given another go in the side. That said, if Arsene went with Wilshere you’d hardly shed a tear would you such is the quality of depth we have. Oh and whisper it, Santi will be back after the International break.

This said, Arsene might go all brave on us and replace either Flamini or Arteta giving him the option of playing both Wilshere and Rosicky. I don’t see him doing that from the very start though, although it would be quite sexy wouldn’t it? Arsene could play a game of seeing how many number 10s he could fit into his starting line up. If you are going to play a game like that then maybe a game at home would be more suitable. I think the stability of Arteta and Flamini worked so well that Arsene will want to give it another go.

Mean Lean’s Predicted Line Up

Who is up for another quick fire start? I know I’d love that. Another two goals in 15 minutes would be just fine if you don’t mind. I don’t see that happening though. Steve Clarke would have watched our game against Napoli and will have a game plan in mind. We currently do not have the pace of Walcott in the side so our options are somewhat restricted in how we play. We are not really going to race in behind so our passing and movement will have to be spot on.

West Brom is a difficult ground to go to these days but if we are in excellent form and have plenty of creativity. Fingers crossed we can continue our winning run.
