Manchester United and their super human strengthen of depth squad narrowly overcame Wolves at the theatre of added on time. And this super human squad was of mostly first team squad members.
Afternoon Gooners,
I kind of had a feeling that this would happen today. Nothing much for me to write today as I found time last night to write a late My Vision blog. and that has pretty much taken up all my content for today.
Ah well, I am usually ok when it comes to writing waffle so I suppose it is just carry on as per usual.
A few games where played last night and luckily enough for us, one of those sides were Fulham who were taken into extra time by Manchester City. I sure hope the cramp is burning through their weary legs as we speak (I write) it sure makes a change. It is usually our opponents who are chilling at home with their cups of hot chocolate while we are running around like crazy away somewhere away in the Champions League. Lucky for us, Arsene and his staff have assembled a youth set up so good that they can give the senior players a night off, so good that we only used two fringe players in the team. That is quite incredible to be honest.
Manchester United and their super human strengthen of depth squad narrowly overcame Wolves at the theatre of added on time. And this super human squad was of mostly first team squad members. Wolves did a very good impression of us, creating and squandering a host of chances. Credit must go to Alex Ferguson though, bringing through top English talent like Welbeck who grabbed the winner. If only Arsene would think about the future of the English game by bringing in quality youth players. From what I can see the only players who could make it at Arsenal are Wilshere, Gibbs, Landsbury, Emmanuel-Thomas, Bartley, Frimpong, Afobe a few French blokes. Whatisname? Sono or something. Some Frenchy striker. What a joke club Arsenal are.
*heavy sigh*
I popped into Ladbrokes before work (wow, that sounds bad doesn’t it?) because I wanted to know the odds on Arsenal winning the league. 10/1 the woman replied. What are the odds on Van Persie ending as top goalscorer? I asked unimpressed with the league winning odds. 50/1 she said with a raised eye brow.
Bloody eck! Steven Gerrard is 25/1 and Van Persie is double that. I slapped down £3 on the desk (the only money I had in my wallet at the time) and had a bit of that. The bet you understand.
He is not scoring buckets as yet, I guess his odds would not be so insane if he was but do not forget that we have yet to click into gear. Arshavin fit, Nasri fit, Rosicky staying fit, Cesc fit and Walcott fit will help the side click into goalscoring gear, so that is a good bet if you are a betting person.
The Ladbrokes woman said that she would put a cheeky bet on him as well after seeing that unless she was just lying to me to be friendly whilst sticking two fingers up at me as I headed out of the door. Who knows.
The moral of the story is do not bet because women will stick fingers up at you.
Robin has promised to try and sort out the so called problems in front of goal just so I can get my money. Thanks Robin.
Van Persie said:
While there were lots of good things that we did in winning four games, there were a few bad aspects after that and we need to find the right balance to win matches like these.
“When you see the matches against Manchester United and Man City, we had many chances and still lost. So we need to look in the mirror and try to do things better. But in terms of creating chances, it’s all good – the 4-3-3 formation really works.
“We’ve seen shots hitting the bar or the post, or just going wide, and perhaps could have had a bit more luck with refereeing decisions as well.”
Speaking of creative players coming back it looks like (touching wood) we will have quite a clean bill of health come Saturday. Teo (as Arsene would say) Walcott and Andrey Arshavin should be in the mix. I want to see a late Theo introduction to test those Fulham tired legs. Vela is close to coming back after his little impressive midweek cameo.
Who else are we waiting for? Ah, yes Samir Nasri mid October which is nice. I kind of miss Nasri nowadays. I watched his goals and assists on Arsenal TV the other day and I remember how good he is. I also remember when Wenger started playing him in an advanced central position as apposed to the wide left position he looked so dangerous. Running through opposition players and creating chances. This 4-3-3 is perfect for him, just as it is for Diaby and Cesc.
His goal against Hull City away remains my favourite. I know the Manchester United goal was a cracker but the way he steadied himself and focused on shooting on his weaker side was fantastic. A pure demonstration of technique. You could almost imagine him as a 13 year old kid being instructed to practice hitting on his weaker foot. Bottom corner, thank you very much, lovely jubbly and all that.
Going back to our youth policy for a moment, Arsene Wenger is worried about the possibility of new regulations being introduced that will stop talented players joining before the age of 18.
Wenger said:
“It will make that policy virtually impossible, If you cannot add any players under 18, and you have the home-grown rule, and on top of that English clubs are limited to bringing in young players who live less than 90 minutes from the training ground, how can we produce home-grown players? I don’t know. So it’s vital that this under-18 transfer rule is not implemented because English clubs would have a domestic limitation and a foreign limitation, making it harder to produce home-grown players.”
This sounds a little like the rehash of his press conference a little while ago but as I am hear to regurgitate the daily news feeds I’ll add it to the pile.
To be honest, I do not see the problem. All we need to do is borrow loadsa dosh and spend spend spend. We need to compete with Manchester City in the transfer market. If that means buying Lescott for over £23 million the so be it. All we need to do is ask our friends and family to buy 5 Lescott shirts each and that will help the club recoup its money back. Simples. I just do not see why Wenger doesn’t see this.
Before I get abusive comments telling me that I am stupid, which I will accept in some cases but not for those comments because they are simply tongue in cheek. You’d be surprised how regularly my sarcasm gets lost in transit.
Back to the case in point, it will certainly change the way we work and I am sure the likes of Platini would love to throw a spanner in the works when it comes to Arsene Wenger’s job. We shall see what happens.
*quick newsfeed check* Thats about that then. Have yourself a nice day.
