Jack Wilshere showed his class yesterday for Bolton against Manchester United. The run of games look like they are doing the trick, he has now established himself in their side and is pulling out the type of classy passes that we have seen from him at youth and reserve level
I have taken a step back, taken a deep breath and can see a little clearer today. The pain is following me around but it is not quite as sharp and as harsh as it was when I watched Kevin Phillips running away with his arms above his head.
Does anyone else have that brief moment when a goal is scored against you. You pause in the hope of an infringement. Perhaps the whistle has blown (like Diaby’s bloody goal!) but I haven’t heard it because of the crowd. Maybe, just maybe the assistant referee is standing on the other side of the pitch with his arm out stretched.
And then that sinking feeling kicks in. I felt like someone had just died. It is awful to say but that is almost the truth for that split second.
My girlfriend said something really interesting to me last night as I sulked around the house. ‘Why do you need such a strong emotion when life already has enough crap to deal with’
It is not a choice, you cannot switch it off. Once you are a die hard Gooner, or any club supporter for that matter, then it stays with you for life.
I have said it many times this season but I want this group of players to win the trophy this year more than ever. We have had so much shite thrown our way and I would like to see nothing more than the players ending up the season as Champions.
But hold your horses, the season is not over as yet, a draw at Old Trafford along with a demolishing of Wolvererhampton Wanderers will put us back in the same position, 5 games left and 2 points behind. Chelsea have drawn against Blackburn. we have obviously done the same at Birmingham so it is Manchester United’s turn to do the same. The games are running out and it will be difficult but it is not over.
What made yesterday that much worse was the way that Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa collectively hitched up their skirts and let Chelsea do as the pleased. Chelsea are the better footballing side right? So what happened to the whole level the playing field bit by getting in their faces and letting Lampard, Terry and co know that they are there? Funny that. I also missed a bit of that when Chelsea smacked Stoke City out of the FA Cup.
Maybe this approach is only specialised for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger who don’t like their legs broken or ankles trodden on. Real players like Wayne Rooney love getting their legs smashed. Didn’t you know?
*Exhale and breathe*
On a positive, Jack Wilshere showed his class yesterday for Bolton against Manchester United. The run of games look like they are doing the trick, he has now established himself in their side and is pulling out the type of classy passes that we have seen from him at youth and reserve level.
It will not be long before Jacky boy is maturing and growing physically. He already possesses the rest of his tools so when the complete package comes about then we can expect to see him doing what he does in the red and white of Arsenal.
Credit to Owen Coyle though, he has turned a bunch of clogging cloggers into a decent footballing side. Bolton gave as good as they got for long spells and it was only because United’s extra quality in the final third (Jack apart of course) made the difference at the right time.
It just shows that just because you own a British passport it doesn’t mean you have to play anti football like Tony ‘cap wearing’ Pulis, Fat ‘despicable’ Sam and all the rest of the aging dinosaurs.
It is time to place the Premier League cap underneath the table for now and pick up the Champions League hat. We have a big game on Wednesday to get up for. It may feel a tad flat right now but come Wednesday evening, I expect the Emirates to be buzzing.
Interesting stuff about Cesc reiterating his desire to stay at Arsenal, but to be honest I don’t know if this is recent, rehashed, mixed up or new content so I shall shy away from much comment. He has said that he wants to stay enough times so unless I see a full interview of him stating that he wants off then I will stick to what I already know. Cesc is the Arsenal captain, our player of the season, or at least close to, we are competing in the two biggest competitions in the world, so I struggle to see the problem.
I am off to try and put Arsenal to the back of my mind for now, not quite sure how I am going to do that one.
Back again tomorrow.
