We may well be jumping the gun on the formation as we do not yet know who will be leaving the club and in turn who will be replacing those players. Replacements will not necessarily be like for like. The only time we can fully speculate will be during the pre season
Good evening Gooners,
Each day is beginning to feel a little like groundhog day in regards to Arsenal. Different names are being fired at us and most of us will be clued up enough to put those names straight into the dustbin where they belong. I am looking forward to watching the Wenger and Chamakh interviews, seeing which shirt he wears etc. That is looking like the only subject on the horizon that I am interested in. That as well as Cesc Fabregas having to once again come out and tell everyone who chooses to listen that he is staying and happy at Arsenal.. well I hope.
I want to talk about our formation today and the potential implications of changing that system next season. We know that Chamakh is a target man, a hard worker and team player. I imagine that Wenger has signed him to play him as soon as he adapts to the physical nature and speed of English football.
If we stick to the 4-3-3 then this could mean a change of position for Robin Van Persie. My question would be, why would Arsene Wenger move Robin Van Persie who was starting to produce world class performances, scoring as well as assisting in equal measure. Van Persie was alongside the best in the league if not the very best in his first few months before being struck down with yet another long term injury. Personally I do not think Van Persie will be moved out of the central striking position after such an impact so the only other alternatives would be to use Chamakh as a back up or play a front two.
Having two forwards gives us many positives in our offensive game. We do not get isolated, Eduardo then has the chance to show his true worth, giving the fact that the lone forward role really did not suit his game, it also allows the likes of Bendtner, Vela and perhaps even a youngster to get games.
Having two central strikers would mean a reshuffle to another part of the team, whether that be the middle three or the wide attackers. Another question would be. Would Arsene play a 4-3-3 formation through the whole campaign and then change it in the next season? Would it be disruptive to ask the whole team to adjust to another way of playing in such an important season?
This formation has pretty much been built around our captain who has given us his best return since he joined as a young teenager. There is little doubt that moving Cesc back into a 4-4-2 or any formation which requires two central strikers, would diminish his attacking threat.
There are many questions that I could ask and the answers will take a little while in coming. What Arsene will want to do though is structure his formation around the players he has and if that means that having two center forwards would help the overall team more then it could well be possible. When I say help the team, I mean by defensively. Will removing a central midfielder and squeezing in another forward help the goals against column? It is not as simple or as black and white as that. For example. we would gain extra protection for our fullbacks whilst losing that extra body in the center of midfield.
We may well be jumping the gun on the formation as we do not yet know who will be leaving the club and in turn who will be replacing those players. Replacements will not necessarily be like for like. The only time we can fully speculate will be during the pre season matches when Arsene Wenger is likely to play his system as often as possible to get the players drilled on the work that they would have been putting in at London Colney.
It does look like the wheels are in motion in regards to a certain Moroccan. Reports are coming through that Chamakh is in London to discuss a move, if this is the case then we should hear something official in the next few days I am guessing.
As Wenger wants to wrap up his transfer targets early, we may see some more transfer market action soon.
Before I go I would like to inform you of a few things, errors and changes that have been happening. Firstly I seem to be having a problem with the contact us page. I am not getting any mail through to my box. I have tested it and something or someone is eating them before I can put them on my plate. I will be looking to fix that asap.
Secondly I have disposed of the old Facebook fans page and have now opened a group. So obviously I need people joining as there is no party without people. Plus if I sit here on my own, I will just end up stuffing my face full of food in this groovy party. To join, just click HERE
