YourVision – Faith in the Current Arsenal Squad
The beauty of those players is that most of them can play in multiple attacking positions, which is a great plus to have when it comes to playing a variety of tactics

Due to the current international break, I’ve decided to analyse the current Arsenal squad and see the areas where (if needed) we might need to strengthen in the summer.
The more and more I look at the current squad, the more I think that only MINOR additions need to be added to the squad in the summer.
If you look at the midfield/forward positions, I personally feel we are very well blessed in this area. In fact I am going to go as far as saying that we have got the best group of attacking players in the Premiership, if not Europe. In the attacking positions alone, we have the likes of Fabregas, Nasri, Diaby, Walcott, Arshavin, Eboue (to an extent), Traore, Rosicky, Ramsey, Wilshire, Merida, Lansbury, Vela, Simpson, Bischoff, Bendtner, Van Persie, Vela, Eduardo and Adebayor. What an amazing group that is.
The beauty of those players is that most of them can play in multiple attacking positions, which is a great plus to have when it comes to playing a variety of tactics.
If we were to sell four players from our attacking pool in the summer (which I can’t see happening), we would still be very strong in this area.
I personally think that Wenger should look to strengthen the defensive area of the squad in the summer, in particular at Right-Back and Centre-Half. At present we have no decent cover in Sagna (the poor guy has hardly had a chance to be rotated in the last two seasons), which is worrying, especially when you look at the other flank where we have Clichy as first choice Left-Back with excellent cover in Gibbs and Silvestre. I know Gavin Hoyte and Eboue can play there, but I see Hoyte as more of a Centre-Back and Eboue (according to Wenger) as a midfielder.
Although Senderos will return back from AC Milan in the summer, I can’t see him getting ahead of the current stable of Gallas, Toure, Djourou and Silvestre. In fact I can see him and possibly Gallas moving on to pastures new. If that were the case, then I would like to see Wenger try and bring in Daniel Agger (who has one year remaining on his contract and who is currently behind Skrtal and Carragher at Liverpool).
I am reasonably happy with the goalkeeping department, however I’m going to be up front and state that I am not a big fan of Almunia. His form has improved from earlier on in the season, so I have to give him credit there; however I tend to find Fabianski to be more commending, when it comes to intercepting crosses and high balls into the area and his distribution to start attacks from the back is a lot quicker as well (a la David Seaman and Jens Lehmann). I wouldn’t be surprised If Wenger has already made moves to sign a new goalkeeper in the close transfer window.
Please have some faith in the current squad. I certainly do.
