Okay, Gilberto hasn’t been the player he was last season but can you blame him?
While captaining his country to Copa America glory, Arsene decided to give the Arsenal captaincy to Gallas.Gilberto captained the side for much of last season and arguably that was his best season and everybody expected him to be handed the captaincy. I agree that Gallas has excelled in that position but Arsene didn’t even tell him that he was losing the captaincy but instead he found out through the Internet. Then when coming back to Arsenal he also lost his starting place!

While announcing the captaincy, AW said that Toure and Gilberto were the vice-captains. So when the game against Sheffield came Gilberto was made to play in centre-half with a bunch of kids and still wasn’t the captain! Instead the captain was Fabianski. He is much younger than Gilberto and he just came last summer!! AW later, stated that Gilberto wasn’t in the previous Carling cup game so the arm-band went to Fabianski. But common Arsene if Toure had played that game, would he be the captain or Fabiniaski?

Then came the game against Spurs, and he still wasn’t the captain, this time it was Senderos! Now we are talking about the captain of Brazil, a world cup winner, a premiership winner, a F.A Cup winner, one of the very FEW players with the most experience in the team and still he is overlooked in favour of Senderos, the same guy who is compared to the legendary Cygan?

Credit to Gilberto who would have left a long time ago but decided to stick and fight for his place. So even if he is having a crap season after everything which is happening to him, we cant blame him. And if this is to be his last season, then surely Arsene hasn’t repaid him after giving his all for nearly five season and for the love The Arsenal!
