Well the result was all important I guess, and at the end of the day it’s something we haven’t always achieved against such brick wall opposition – either lately or in the past.

But this one-sided struggle clearly showed how much we need a couple of things – a ‘natural’ finisher (hurry back Dudu please) and defensive organisation.

Against such opposition playing with ten men behind the ball, you don’t get many clear cut chances and when you do you simply have to take them. Adebayor’s dallying miss with just the keeper to beat was just awful. And after the relief of the last gasp goal from Nicky (who was, unjustly I felt, jeered for making a couple of bad passes soon after coming on), we let Bolton carve us apart at the back and they should have equalised immediately. It makes you think that if Bolton had had any belief from the start, that they could have scored a goal or two at least.

Our defensive frailties are the most worrying aspect of our form this season for me, and the problem has simply got to be addressed. We need a world class keeper for starters – Almunia just doesn’t command his box enough and there were a couple of jittery moments before we scored the goal caused by his indecision. But mainly we just don’t seem organised and Arsene must get in a defensive coach as a matter of urgency or we definitely wont make next seasons Champions League.

My reason for writing this article however is to publicise the stupidity of the ‘attendance’ figures quoted by the announcer. He proudly told us that the attendance for today’s game was 60000+. Anyone ‘attending’ the game will know from all the empty seats (and not just those in the club zone) that the actual number was something more like 55000. No doubt there were over 60000 tickets sold for the game – and that is good enough no doubt to announce to the bank – but why question the fans intelligence by stating clearly incorrect ‘attendance’ figures?

With today’s technology it must be simple enough to count the actual numbers through the turnstiles rather than tickets sold. If lies are told about attendance figures, what other misinformation are we being fed I wonder.

Come on Arsenal – play it straight!!
