Hi there,

This previous month has been rather crappy for Arsenal fans like me, with us linked with ridiculous players from Thuram to Benzema to Gomis. Plus, for a non-European Arsenal supporter like me, I am really not sure who I should support for the Euros(I would have supported Croatia if Dudu was not injured).

The reason why most of the transfer talks are crap is because Arsenal has enough strikers already. Get that? We have Adebayor, Van Persie, Eduardo, Walcott, Bendtner and Vela. That is SIX strikers vying for two, and sometimes one place in attack. Why on Earth do we need to spend 30 million on Villa or Benzema? In fact, I think we have even more strikers next season than the time of the Henry-Bergkamp-Wiltord-Kanu-Jeffers. Yah, six is more than 5.

True, we do not have strikers quite in the class of Henry or Bergkamp. However, all of the strikers have proven to be promising at least, with each having his own qualities.

Adebayor – hardly a name to forget after an amazing 30 goals this season. I myself am not the greatest fan of him, I really hates it when he misses sooo many chances, maybe it’s my bad, I don’t know. However, it cannot be denied that he is definitely one of the players of the season and even scored the Goal of the Season against Tottenham “top four” Hotspur.

Verdict: I, like almost everyone else, doubt it if he can repeat or even improve on this statistic next season. It is however no doubt that he will be our number one striker, trust him to get 20 goals at least.

Van Persie – Aww. That sort of summarizes Robin. For those who are not totally sure of what he can do, go to youtube and type his name, and you’ll see who we are missing for a large portion of last season. Stay fit, please.

Verdict: I reckon he can actually last longer than last season, perhaps only missing half or hopefully only a quarter of the season. 15 goals is a realistic aim though.

Eduardo – Every cockroach, mouse, parasite and Tottenham fan knows what happened to him. He endured a poor first third of the season, often being on the pitch for 15 minutes and doing nothing. Since then though, he has begun to show his potential, being our third best goal-scorer last season despite being a newcomer.

Verdict: Despite stories circulating that he might actually join us in pre-season, I am seriously not sure when he will return. Even if he returns I am not sure whether he plays, much will depend on the fitness of Van Persie. If Robin can stay fit, I’m predicting a so-so season for him, maybe 10 goals, mostly in cup competitions.

Walcott: Perhaps slowest-to-fulfill-potential player in Wenger’s reign. He has been here for more than 2 years if I’m not wrong, which translates into a lifetime for an Arsenal player. He has shown glimpses of what he can do, but when will he actually play as a centre-forward? Even if he has to play on the wing, please Mr Wenger, him and not a certain Eboue.

Verdict: Every fan has been saying ‘this is going to be Walcott’s season’, well I don’t think he will go on and score 30 goals(*cough*) next season, but he’ll definitely improve. 10 goals, anyone?

Bendtner – I like this guy a lot, for two main reasons, actually three. Firstly, he is perhaps the only self-confident striker in the team(if there was another, he’ll probably fight with him, ahem), which is a good thing. He won’t have to ask the whole stadium whether he should shoot when he is in a one-on-one situation, that would be too Belarus-sy. Secondly, he is probably our best header and believe it or not, one of the best in the league. Thirdly, perhaps most importantly, he always scores against Man United in my Football Manager game. Mmm.

Verdict: More substitute appearances for him at best, sadly. I think the next season will probably be no different from this one for him.

Vela – Okay, I confess. I have never seen this guy in action (except on youtube). I really don’t know how he will fit in our team, but sadly I cannot remember a successful Mexican in the short 6 years I have been following Arsenal and the EPL/BPL.

Verdict: I really don’t know what to expect of him. With the new 7 subs rule, he will probably be on the bench for a record 38 league games. Well I hope he shines in the Carling Cup, because the chance of him displacing Adebayor, Van Persie, Eduardo and Bendtner is as likely as Alex Ferguson being our next manager.

I guess, after all this talks about Villa coming in, Adebayor going out etc, there might actually not be any action in our frontline after all. As expected Mr Wenger will go for Adebayor-Van Persie as his first choice, though I personally prefer a wacky 3 man attack ala the Dutch way with Walcott- Bendtner/Adebayor- Van Persie. Realistically, our attack is as good as any in the league, if not better, I see no reason why we should not challenge for the title, and yes, win it. GO ON YOU GUNNERS!
