Worryingly, Alisher Usmanov is now the major shareholder in Arsenal. I was so pleased when the board took the decision to freeze trading of shares but it seems that the thaw has come and the biggest threat to Arsenal has re-appeared.

I’ve always been proud of the way Arsenal is run – a top European club which actually manages to stay in profit. It’d be a real shame if that is all swept aside by a new Abramovich who has no football experience and is by all accounts a power-crazy control freak. Look at how well Liverpool have been doing with their new owners getting involved!

While I can see the benefits of a big transfer budget, it often comes hand in hand with expectation of an immediate return and it looks like Arsene has been doing just fine with the funds he’s had available to him. Plus, all his biggest buys have hardly been a resounding success (Reyes, Theo). The idea of a £30mil striker coming to the Emirates is exciting but what would it do to the team spirit?
