YourVision – We need competition in this team
The bitter fact that many don’t want to hear is that we are short in number compared to our own standard despite the fact that we have had the worst luck through injuries

Arsenal’s performance this season has left many wondering where in the table the team will be come may and some critics are already proclaiming the failure of the manager’s policy of sign them young and groom (reads kids project), how I wish they could really shut up. I don’t think the team’s poor performance so far this season has anything to do with any player’s age, after all age is just a number.
How can we explain a team of an average age of 19 whipping a wigan side playing at their best 3-0 and that triumphant display against Sheffield?
The explanation is that our Carling cup team comprises of players who are determined to prove a point to the manager and to all GOONERS.
A team that fights to win every ball from their opponents
A team that concentrates more than 100% when in control of matches.
A team that is ready to engage opponents physically when necessary
A team in which no player rants at a colleague who has made a mistake but all take responsibility for the mistake in good faith.
Above all the carling cup team is a team where there is stiff competition for every position (not like in the Prem team) perhaps that explains their level of concentration, commitment and determination
Back to the Prem team, for the love of the club I humbly request the manager to create competition in every position in the team.
The bitter fact that many don’t want to hear is that we are short in number compared to our own standard despite the fact that we have had the worst luck through injuries.
The manager should in January try to sign players who are potential starters to create competition in this team. Take a look at the goal keeping department where Almunia knows that he will play all Prem and C L games when not injured and Fabianski is not the kind of player who can provide the competition we saw between Almunia and Lehman last season.
Since Cole departure to Chelsea, Clichy has had no real competitor in the left fullback role and if Silvestre is going to provide that healthy competition that I believe all GOONERS would love to see in the team then we need a center back who will wrestle for a starting place to send warning signals to the current centre backs who are sadly our worst performers so far this season.
I said sadly because they are the most experienced lot in the team who should show the young players how to do things as winners.
Our midfield also need a defensive player who will cover the back four and allow Fabregas to freely move up field and cause havoc to opponents with his killer passes.
I really feel sorry for Denilson who has been our best performer so far this season but he is not that holding midfielder who would cover enough ground in front of the defenders and allow us to get the best out of Fabregas (killer passes)
I am not saying the players whose positions I feel need competitors are not giving their all but we need that healthy competition for every position like our striking department (Eduardo, Adebayor,Van Persie,Bendtner, Walcott and Vela) that will soon have real competition if those injured returns. I rest my case.
