Although I live in Australia and was born a “kiwi”I believe I am an Arsenal supporter. I cannot attend in person but I watch all the games I can. I choose to buy Arsenal products over the net because I support the club in the best way I can. I have cheered for the club since my youth when The Arsenal I could watch only wore shades of grey. Each match watched I have envied those lucky customers with tickets who got to watch the game in person – understanding that this was often at their own great personal cost.

I thought to myself that those people were genuine supporters. At least I thought that way until last night (at 3:30am local time). I watched a large portion of those lucky customers change from club Supporters to Fans and proceed to harass and boo off the pitch a player of the club they “support” who was having a very bad night in a very public arena.

You see my Vision is that supporters encourage the club – give support to the team and players in any way they can. To me Fans (literally short for Fanatics) are akin to terrorists. They want success so much that they will sacrifice anything – even one of their own in order to achieve those ideals, Did you really think that Eboue wasn’t trying his best while playing out of position and coming back from injury? How is the “support” you gave him today going to help him in the future?

The next time you wonder why the manager is holding back on introducing one of the great new young talents into the first team have a thought about what would happen to that young talent if they were subjected to the level of abuse I heard last night from the Fans… So from me – my thanks to those true Supporters that attend the matches . They were wonderful at Chelsea and Burnley and other venues. To those people who think of themselves as Fans – perhaps being a Supporter would be the better ideal.
