Over the last ten years we have experienced some of the best and worst moments that any football fan can experience. Winning the premiership obviously rates as one of the highest moments in our history, Ian Wright breaking records, Thierry Henry breaking records, going a whole season unbeaten…. But all of this is overshadowed by the disapointment that is experienced even in seasons when we have been winners.
– We were flawless the team were unbelievable…. But even that season we managed to get beaten in europe by PAOK!!!
– We were great again all season, until the semi final against Man Utd, this time we get gifted a penalty and miss it!! Then our season goes to pot and we cant defend the title and Man Utd win the treble.
– We were awful, dumped out of champions league early only for us to start playing well in the Uefa cup…. To lose on penalties in the final. Cant match Man Utd in the league and fail to get anywhere near the FA cup.
– Another terrible season in the league, but this time we managed to beat Man Utd in the FA cup and get to the final…. Could this be it, could our luck be changing??? NO!! Michael Owen, two last minute goals against that team that always seem to get the luck… Liverpool!! A quarter final loss against Valencia in the Champions league wrapped up another disapointing season!!
– What can I say, another double and about time too!! But our champions league form was awful this year not getting out of the second group stage… Richard Wright to thank for that one!!
– We looked great all season, but again we couldnt defend the title. Beating Man Utd in the famous Ferguson Beckhamgate incident was a highlight, but it didn’t shake the old foe like it does when they beat us. An FA cup final win is something to keep us happy in the end. But again in Europe we couldn’t get out of the second stage group!
– The unbeaten season. But even the title decider at White Hart Lane was spoilt by the scum’s last minute penalty. In the Champions League we get knocked out by Chelsea of all teams – That was our year!!! In the FA cup beaten by Man Utd.
– Again we cant defend the title. The unbeaten run comes to an end at the expense of Man Utd so we don’t reach 50 games unbeaten!! Champions League knocked out again!! We beat Man Utd in the final of the FA Cup but we played awful and won on penalties – Nothing to shout too loudly about.
– We struggle in the league but manage to beat the scum to 4th place and celebrate it!??? Is this what our seasons have come to, fighting for a European spot!! Lose to Wigan in the Carling cup semi final. All of a sudden though our Champions League fortunes pick up. We reach the final only conceding one goal for the whole competition leading up to the final….is this our year at last!!???….. No, que dodgy referee number 1…. We lose to Barcelona 2-1… unlucky
– Again we struggle in the league, in fact this is the season every commentator loves to bring up time and again…. Going out of 4 competitions in one week!! PSV in europe, Chelsea in the Carling Cup and Blackburn in the FA cup….The frustrating thing about this season is the fact we had such great results against Liverpool in the FA cup and Carling Cup and Spurs in the Carling Cup and Man Utd in the league only to waste it all!
– So here we are…. The season started so well. Firing on all cylinders, not missing Henry, scoring headers and defending well, getting good results. Then we lose to the scum in the Carling Cup, lose the Man Utd in the FA cup and go on probably one of the worst runs I have ever experienced in the league to fall from a 5 point clear gap to third in the league. Finally we play Liverpool three times in the space of a week and have dodgy referee number 2, 3 and 4 to thank for those great decisions that send our season packing. Thanks.
So as you can see, even when we’re winning we’re left disappointed in some respects!! Only 1998 and 2002 really stand out as being the greatest of seasons for me, winning the title at Old Trafford. But Europe just still seems to evade us every single year!! It’s so frustrating being an Arsenal fan – the glory of Walcott one second coupled by a penalty against us the next sums up what supporting a team called Arsenal is like.
