After attending the Carling Cup game against Sheff United on Tuesday night, I am more convinced than ever that the youth route is the best way forward for Arsenal at this moment in time.
The team as a whole were outstanding against Sheff United, but although the likes of Carlos Vela, Niklas Bendtner, Jack Wilshire & Kieran Gibbs will gain all the headlines (deservedly so), I felt Aaron Ramsey was absolutely outstanding as well.
Everything was going through Ramsey. He started most of our attacks, he was always demanding the ball & his passing range was a pleasure to see. If Fabregas were to be injured for a sustained period, I am more than convinced that Ramsey would slot into his role very nicely.
The “youngsters” were playing with the football brains of established 24 -25 year olds. They were that good.
In some cases, when a team has a huge number of promising youngsters coming through, it doesn’t make any sense bringing in experienced players. This will only block their path to the first team & perhaps force them to move elsewhere, due to the lack of opportunities being given to them.
I know people wanted an experienced midfielder in the close transfer window (me included), but after seeing the likes Ramsey & Randall (who had one of best games for the club) outclass a decent Championship side & seeing the likes of Song & Denilson (who are no more than 23) making inroads in the first team, Wenger has totally convinced me that youth over experience is the best way forward for the team at this present time.
The current core of youngsters are probably the best bunch I have seen at Arsenal, since I’ve been a Gooner. The most exciting thing is, they are all around the same age, which means that they are used to each other’s style of play, which was pretty evident to see against Sheff Utd.
COME ON THE WENGER BOYS!
