YouTube scouting & Nasri talks to erm.. begin

Cutting clips of a player pumping his fists, celebrating with his arms outstretched and then a few clips of goals and turns on the half way line on top of some pumping music does not qualify anyone to make a proper judgement on a player. Let the guy actually join the club first and then let us actually allow the player(s) to settle into the club/country/role/style of play and then allow the player to get a run of

I tell you what for free, I would hate to be in Arsene Wenger’s position right now. Well there are certain perks that I think I could handle such as his bank balance. While I don’t actually know figures I am going to guess that it is probably a little more in the black than my own. That is just a guess but who knows when the main bulk of his direct debits come out. He could be eating beans and toast until pay day on Monday.

It is the other part of his life that I do not envy. His job as Arsenal manager. Whatever he does will simply be not good enough at least from a section of supporters.

If we won the League, Champions League and FA Cup treble next season playing expansive attacking football, you could imagine the following.

‘Wenger cocked up a chance at the quadruple, we will not get that chance again. WENGER OUT’

‘We fluked the treble and only won because the competition was weaker. It is time for Owen Coyle’

That might sound like an exaggeration but I bet I could find a comment or two if that was to happen and yes, before you say it we are not expected to win the treble next season. (Reverse jinx placed nicely)

So why do I think Wenger cannot win? Because before the European transfer market is open, Wenger has been criticised for not making any confirmed signings which is interesting considering that his probable targets are away from the Premier League. Basically because our dirty washing isn’t hanging up in our back garden (not sure why it would be hanging up if dirty) doesn’t mean that we are not hard at work behind the scenes which we quite clearly are.

The signings of Jordan Henderson, Phil Jones and now Ashley Young has made many eyes go very green around North London and further afield. Various sources are suggesting that we are on course to announce the triple signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho and Alvarez. This has also been another reason to shake the fist at Wenger. These players are no good and certainly not good enough for Arsenal. Why? because they are either too young, too much of a large forehead or too Argentinean.

Whoever invented You Tube  needs to sit down and take a good lecturing on how giving people the power to be bedroom scouts is bad news for the world.

Before I go any further, I would like to own up to my fair share of transfer rumour > sucked in > You Tube > opinion of player but I try not to take that opinion too seriously. I have read some absurd comments about Alvarez today and yesterday. So many people are now experts in Argentinean football.

Cutting clips of a player pumping his fists, celebrating with his arms outstretched and then a few clips of goals and turns on the half way line on top of some pumping music does not qualify anyone to make a proper judgement on a player. Let the guy actually join the club first and then let us actually allow the player(s) to settle into the club/country/role/style of play and then allow the player to get a run of games to find some sort of consistency. I know, I know. That requires patience, which seems in very short supply these days. Once all those boxes have been ticked then I would say that is a good time to call a player a poor mans xxx or a taller, more talented version of Messi.

Unless the aim is just to criticise the club and manager. If that is the case then I guess the minority should just keep doing the job that they are doing.

In other news, I hear that Samir Nasri is ready to talk about his future. So says a headline in the Telegraph. *Sits at the back of the classroom with hand up* ‘Haven’t talks been ongoing since before time begun or something?

I don’t have unimportant things like quotes to give you but it is ‘understood’ (whatever that means) that Arsenal have been encouraged with conversations with Nasri’s representatives and that further talks were due, Although I understood that Nasri and company were ready to talk which implies that they have been sitting on the phone for weeks without saying a word, like love struck teenagers.

If Nasri does end up signing a new deal and Barcelona slither away along with three juicy signings then I would say it is a great start to the transfer window. Only a start mind you, because there are other positions that will need to be dealt with but let us not forget that the window opens on the 1st July and not closes. Plenty of time folks, chill the Freddie Ljungberg out.

Back tomorrow.
