We can beat Chelsea / New Pato to join?

A victory at Stamford Bridge will a) pull us three points away from Chelsea (If they win their game in hand) and b) install new self belief into the team and at this stage that will be needed as I am sure Manchester United will beat Bolton

I have woken up this morning very surprisinly positive about this whole Arsenal winning the league lark. Call me an old optimistic (optional) but I have just realised that we are very capable of going to Stamford Bridge and grabbing three points.

We were the last team to win at Stamford Bridge sometime in the 40’s or something but Chelsea will now be made as favourites to win that game especially with our form form of late but that is the point. We are a better side when our backs are against the wall and we have to pull something out of the bag (been using that phrase alot of late)

It is time to put these stupid last four league results behind us and fight to the end. I have my reasons as to why we drew those games which I stated in yesterdays article but this should not apply to the game against Chelsea.

It is clear that several players will need to step up and prove their worth to the team. Hleb, Cesc and Adebayor have not been firing on all cylinders (Milan apart) and if we are to win the league then they are going to have to step up once again and get back to early season form.

William Gallas agrees that his Arsenal team need to keep fighting to the very end.

‘I’ll tell you why there was a difference between the win in Milan and our next game. It was in the head,’ Gallas said in The Sun.

‘It is human nature that after a huge game in Europe it is difficult to find the same level of motivation for the following game. In fact what we needed was an even higher level than we had in Milan. We all have to understand that.’

‘And we have to understand it quickly because time is running out for us this season. ‘We need to understand what it takes to become champions if we want that trophy.’

Gilberto has stated the obvious really. We all knew that he would be off in the summer as soon as it was clear that Flamini was the new boss in the holding role.

“I will wait until the end of the season and then make my decision,” he said.

“If a good opportunity comes along then I don’t see any other option. I love the club and Arsene Wenger is a good man and a good manager. But there are only two months to go and I haven’t played much. I’m trying to adjust to the situation, but I confess it’s not been easy.”

It is a sad end for the Brazilian who has always given 100% from the moment he pulled on the red and white shirt and scored that goal against Liverpool on his debut. But the sooner he goes the better for us and himself because it is not doing any good him being around the club and feeling unhappy. Gilberto is what I call the donkey kong type player. It takes him a while to get going before he reaches full steam. When he comes in for an odd game here and there it does not show the best of Gilberto. He missed pre season with us and has not had a run of games to get any sort of form together. Don’t forget he was our best player last season and will be good purchase for anyone who manages to get him.

Little pieces of transfer rumours doing the rounds today. We are linked with a Brazilan youngter Diogo.

‘Diogo is better than Pato,’ said Portuguesa president Manuel da Lupa. ‘Arsenal have come twice to talk about him, but they never wanted to pay what Diogo is really worth. In 2006 they wanted to take him to England to [get to] know Arsenal and see if he would adapt to the country. I told them they needed to sign a pre-agreement worth five million reais [£1.5m], but they wouldn’t do it.

‘They came back again last year after he began playing regularly for our first team, but obviously he was more expensive. We want Diogo to play in the Brazilian league until the end of the year, reach the national team and increase his value.’

The forward’s representative, Rodrigo Righetti, said: ‘Diogo would love to play for Arsenal. But for now, he must wait for an offer that suits both the club and himself.’

It certanally sounds like something that could be fact and not ficional. He would say he is better than Pato though wouldn’t he? Typical of us wanting to pay less. If he is supposed to be better than Pato then surely £1.5 million is a good deal. Anyway, we don’t even know how true this is so I will wait and see what happens if anything at all.

What sounds like ficonal is our link to Stephen Pienaar of Everton. If we were really intereated in him then we would have picked him up from Ajax after we played them about 4 times in the space of a few years, a couple years ago. And what do we need with another passing central midfield player? Oi! What is happening with Flamini’s contract? It is obviously not as clear cut as the player and manager said it would be. Give the man a nice juicy pay rise for his hard work. At least he shows some bloody urgency.

I have been fooling around with some software so I can create a podcast, that will happen in the next few weeks I guess. Any ideas for it is welcome, just click Contact Button
